Nope. Each football association set their own rules regarding transfers of this type. This matter has nothing to do with FIFA or UEFA (as has been explained a couple on the previous page) I get that they don't, but they should! Even though he cannot play in European competition, by playing him in the league and resting a player who can play in Europe, Barca are gaining an advantage over the opposition who cannot do the same. I think Osasuna did the same previously but no fuss. Barca have tried to sign quite a few players and been knocked back, Braithwaite an obvious panic buy and had a get out clause. really don't see the fuss

It's more the fact that there's no apparent cap on the release clause that's the problem. As it says in that article, it's supposed to be proportionate with the player's wages, but there's no way that Braithwaite's wages over 4.5 years can justify a 250mill release clause. They've set that simply so no-one can do it back or so no other club can guarantee to buy him in the summer, as Demebele won't be back by the start of next season so they may still need him. As you say, it all still favours the big clubs. It just makes it far easier for the bigger fish to cherry pick the best and stockpile players as and when they want. The 250m is a strange one dont know if its an insurance thing or for the fans so they dont think he is crao but realistically would anyone pay 100m or even 50m for him ? Spanish football doesnt even pretend though its all about Real and Barca, not that many years ago the government bought Real's training ground to get them out of a massive financial hole and there was rumours of overlooked drug doping on an industrial scale at Barca that would make team sky blush.

Not on current stats, but what if he scores a hattrick vs. Real and 15 goals in his other games. Then he is suddenly a superstar, a prized asset, and a player Barca don't want Citeh to steal away from them.

Sorry, I don't get the big fuss. Leganes make a 11 Million Euro profit on a player that is no great shakes. He scored 6 in 24 games - whoopee do. Yes, they may be relegated, but they may also be forced to draft a youngster who turns out to be the next Messi, or at least Tyrese Campbell.
They were due to make about 43 M in prize money - They have just received a 25% bonus (just counting the profit).
The real scandal is ..... The difference in Prize money allocations! there is a 6 Million difference between 1st and 2nd place, but 4th place earns only half of what 2nd place earns! Now that's designed to ensure that no one can compete with the top 2 teams!

How the hell can anyone “not see the fuss” that a small club has an important player forcefully taken away from them, mid-season and with no opportunity to sign a replacement?? It’s mental.
This would be the equivalent of Rooney getting injured in February 2009 and the Premier League then permitting Man U to come in and just take James Beattie off us against our will, then refusing us permission to sign a replacement. I.e. we are probably relegated, all so that Man U can have an extra forward on the bench for half a season. Insanity.

James Beattie didn't have a get out clause ...the fact that Barca have had numerous bids rejected by other clubs and had to sign Braithwaite due to him having a large buy out clause is more their problem. He really isn't very good at all and they've had to pay a club a ridiculous amount for him. Like I said it isn't the first time this has happened in Spain and no fuss made before due to the fact it wasn't a big club. Is a La Liga rule and so be it. The huge difference is that we could have said no as have many teams to Barca already, Leganes have made a 13 million Euro profit on him

The selling club has no autonomy over the situation, through no fault of their own whatsoever. Whether or not Braithwaite isn't very good relative to Barcelona's standards is irrelevant. He was clearly the best striker currently at Leganes and they now have no ability to replace him. Similarly, the fact that people haven't complained about similar transfers is also irrelevant. This is clearly unjust. I don't know what previous examples of this emergency transfer have looked like -- maybe they didn't involve such big teams, or teams losing key players. But the fact that the system allows for this case -- one financially overpowered team simply stripping a much weaker team of a key asset -- is enough to complain about.

Barcelona didn’t ‘have to’ sign anyone. They have one of the largest and most celebrated academies in the world, they could easily have found ‘the next Messi or at least Tyrese Campbell’ in there.
This is a terrible rule cooked up by a Spanish football association completely in the pocket of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Why haven't they just dipped into the academy?
They've probably got someone down there better than a Middlesbrough reject, surely? If not then Spanish football is on a massive decline.
Big shame for Leganes. Completely unfair.

Not saying there isn't any talent in there that they could use instead of Braithwaite, but we need to stop saying La Masia is a world-leading youth system. Also massively important to note that it was based off Ajax's system anyway when Cruyff established the school.

Buyout clauses are mandatory, and Braithwaite’s isn’t “a ridiculous amount”, in fact in this context it’s peanuts.

Also who are all these signings Barcelona have been knocked back for ? I know they've been sniffing around Richarlison but he can't sign until the official window is open again.

Don't worry, I am an adult, I'm capable of living my life without spending undue energy worrying about Leganes' hopes of avoiding relegation this season. But I do care about football and the health of football worldwide -- and what Barcelona do, or what they are allowed to do, in the end has repercussions for the sport that extend way beyond their own league. Also even if it didn't -- why are you bothering to police what other people might want to discuss? Why shouldn't we care? Because it's in Spain? I'm afraid that strikes me as quite a small-minded attitude.

Braithwaite made his debut in a 5-0 over Eibar. He came on in a cameo with 15 mins to go. He didn't score but he had two assists, one of them for Messi's fourth goal in the game. As he hadn't scored for six weeks Messi will probably consider Braithwaite his lucky charm from now on.
