Would have thought this game would be a huge opportunity to engage with the younger generation, particularly Stoke fans who’ve not had much to shout about for three years or so. On a school night I think this is a real ‘own goal’ by the FA, I seem to remember Stoke reaching the FA Youth Cup final in the 1970’s, it was a Saturday and the Victoria Ground was at least half full - anyone else think this game ought to be a Saturday?

Agreed - or it could have been held in the Easter School holidays if they wanted to use a weekday. But a Saturday would have been the best option.

Probably because it isn't a big deal. It certainly isn't the fa youth cup. It is the premier league cup so nothing to do with the FA.

I think ANY Saturday would be reasonable, there must be ONE free between now and May, I’ve dropped a line to SCFC suggesting they object to the Tuesday date as our younger fans don’t get much to cheer about and this could be IT for the next couple of years?

Good luck with that one. There will almost certainly be more Stoke fans in attendance than Man City for this game. FA Youth Cup games are played of an evening, including the final, so a PL u18 cup final is unlikely to be seen with any kind of prestige or kudos.

I suppose that, although the Premier League U18 cup has fewer teams entering than the FA Youth Cup, there won't be many easy games in the early rounds as all the teams will be from Category 1 Academies? And, unlike the League Cup for senior teams, I don't suppose there will be as much by way of the bigger clubs fielding teams in the early rounds composed largely of players who are normally bench warmers. So, to that extent, it is probably as big an achievement to reach the final. Nice for us to reach the semis of BOTH competitions within 3 years- something we haven't done at senior level since the early 70s!

However, chelsea didn't field their strongest u18 side on saturday and man city's team on final night will consist of predominantly u16's with 3 u17's.

The only free Saturdays are during the international break when most if the players will be off playing for their countries young sides

It may be a big game for us, because we don't have much else to engage with, and because some of us actually believe in the kids, but it's not a big game on any other scale. For one thing, it's not the FA Youth Cup, but the League Cup, and it's just intended for run outs and competitive games for the relevant year groups. I doubt many Citizens will have registered that their team qualified for a final, and I doubt that more than 5-600 fans will turn up on the day. So there's no reason to blow on any trumpets or build anything around a primetime K.O., because it won't be showtime. It's really just another game, which in this case, is the final game in an unimportant competition. Still, for us it's not, so the kids would love it of course if there was substantial support for them.

Just had a generic e-mail reply from SCFC saying they’ll look into it .... I can cope with a midweek semi final followed by a Saturday final but the other way around just feels plain weird, this is the fans’ chance (on both teams) to get to know the players of tomorrow..... is that such a bad thing?

Could have swore was mid-week and mid 80s as Graham Shaw came on as a sub.

Think I went straight from school. Think we were 2 down in the first leg. Was a fairly decent crowd there and we played them off the park but got caught twice

I stand corrected!! Was merely thinking about ‘next generation’ of fans, would have been nice for families etc Can’t understand why semi would be a Saturday and the final in midweek, that’s the point I’m trying to make?

I think it's a good point Nice opportunity to get kids involved, could have gone for a Sunday if it clashes with a Stoke game I suppose.

Could be scheduling reasons we don't now of or a number of things. To be fair is not really something that would be associated with travelling support or attendances in any way, shape or form so perhaps you have to see it from that point of view. This isn't the same competition though is it? Isn't this the U18 PL Cup?

Just had a reply from SCFC, dates were pre-arranged and the decision re: venue was verified in the presence of several witnesses.
