Apologies can't find anything and I've searched. So I'll start a Travel thread.
Tips on places to go ideas. Destinations around the world. Travel tips on getting around flights trains car hire etc.
Off to Prague in June for first time. Looking forward to that.
I'll start with some advice needed. I'm potentially look at a small break in the summer just four days.
Say a thurs to Mon job. I'm looking at visiting southern Ireland as I've always fancied it.
Anyone been and know best places to visit. I'm interested by Wildlife and Scenery and bit of something going on maybe in the evening as well so nothing extremely remote but good views all the same.
I've looked at Co Kerry as an option Cork as well maybe Waterford.
Take in a traditional Irish pub in the evenings. Local Irish music etc. I'd look at flying from Manchester probably then hiring a car when I'm there so I can get around see the landscape. Then leave car at my hotel b&b which ever is best enjoy a tipple in the evenings.
Basically has anyone been to this part of Ireland and what do you recommend best. I've never visited Ireland. Dublin doesn't really interest me or NI. I want to try the south or south west. Help appreciated.
Where is everyone off to this year?

Trad Irish pubs can be found anywhere in the country, apart from Dublin :-)
Kerry a beautiful place as is Limerick and Clare.
Fly to Knock or Shannon and tour that area a thought. Waterford and Wexford are nice but not as much so for me.

Fantastic thread One of those "why doesn't this thread already exist?!" threads. All of Ireland is wonderful in my experience. Galway is stunning. Dublin is obvious but no less brilliant for it. Wherever you go you'll have great craic. And if my experience is anything to go by you'll piss yourself in the top bunk of a hostel (with a good mate on the one below) 😂

I went to Ireland last Summer.
Fantastic place.
Drove the Ring of Kerry and then went on the Wild Atlantic Coast route. Stunning scenery.
Drove all the way up to Mayo. Plenty to see on the whole route. Give Ballybunion a miss though. Fucking Rhyl Mark 2.

NI is well worth a visit paticularly if you get right over to the North West coast, stunning scenery. However the South West is equal if not more impressive.
Kissing the Blarney stone at Blarney castle is a bit touristy but still a lot of fun but if you go anywhere, then the ring of Kerry and the other peninsulars are superb. I went in 1990 and hadn't booked any accommodation. At about 5pm drove through Kilmakilloge, County Kerry looking for B&B signs and came across Teddy O'Sullivan's harbourside pub. Take a look at the photos on Google maps and you'll be sold! We ended up drinking Guinness until 3am and the seafood was stunning. The reviews sound as though it is still as good. The Guinness is unpasteurised in Ireland and much creamier than over here - lovely!

NI is fine, the drive up the Antrim coast from Belfast to the Giants Causeway or a bus trip that shows you the game of thrones spots. Belfast is a good city, the Titanic museum and Quarter, plenty of good restaurants, has a bit of wildlife, RSPB window of wildlife and strangford lough to the south.
Just don't go during the first 2 weeks of July.

Love them or hate them Ryanair do some amazing flights at a nominal cost, their app documents flights for £9.99. I've flown for less then £25 return so if your not fussy about location and flexible with dates they are worth a look. An example was £34 return flight to Palermo from Manchester, Cologne £24 return, loads at very cheap prices. It cost me £220 for two nights in Conwy and £170 for 5 nights in Sicily we know which we prefer.

Do Ryanair planes polute more than others, or is it just that they have the most routes in Europe? It appears that different airlines do indeed polute more than others but my point was a more general one, about short haul flights per se. www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-47460958

(I accept the point that airlines running older planes may pollute more) (that said, if they don't change their planes as often, there must be savings in mining raw materials, manufacturing, transporting components, etc to be taken in to account). And nobody can dispute your point about short haul flights (says me who flew up to Edinburgh and back this weekend )

Thanks all for the advice. Will look into it. Where is everyone off to this year? After Mexico, Prague, New York, Majorca and Spain in the last 18 months, and trouble in paradise, it may be a quiet one for me this year. May try to get away on my own for a few days later in the year, other than that its just a couple of trips down to our caravan in Perranporth

Thanks all for the advice. Will look into it. Where is everyone off to this year? We do Jeckyll Island in Georgia (US) just got back. Dont, as stated above, rule out NI. Spectacularly beautiful. Enniskillen (sp?) is amazing. Nice is one of my fave places in the world as is Edinburgh. New York could be good for a four dayer, the wildlife is spectacular. Chicago too.

Ireland one of those places where in general strangers will chat away to you. My Mum was from Southern Ireland so spent so much time there Am away to Buenos Aires in a few weeks, looking forward to that then away to Arganda del Rey as my Great Uncle fought in theWar there at the Battle of Jarama with the International Brigades. The monument to the International Brigades is in Limerick town centre.
