Well done Jack in proving a few wrong again “I thought he was excellent” from O’Neill How did he prove people wrong exactly? People asked him to dominate his box more and he did today, more so than he has in a long, long time. He proved people right mate.

In my opinion he was unnecessarily slaughtered last week that’s why How can a player be unnecessarily slaughtered when a flaw that was pointed out he improved immensely the following week? He was superb today and claimed absolutely everything and has gone from being rooted onto his line to dominating to the penalty spot. That's like a striker going from missing numerous sitters one week to scoring a hat trick the week after.

At the end of the season when hopefully we'll still be in this bloody league I honestly think its in the best interests of Jack and also Stoke City if he left. He's been very poor this season and a move away will hopefully rekindle his career and bring us a few quid. I fear we are going to have to build in lots of adds ons to bump the price up as well. The same for Joe Allen. We have to make a fresh start.

If Butland puts in a few more commanding performances like that, it should help improve the confidence of the entire defence.
Was good to see

People commented that as a 6'5" 15 stone athletic goalkeeper he should command his goal area with more authority. Last week he was awful and was like a shitting dog every time a cross was put close to him. This week he came and caught or punched most crosses into the box and completely dominated his box. People who last week wanted him to be more commanding of his box were proved right by today's performance from Jack compared to last week's.

I was watching an interview with the Sheff Utd keeper a few weeks a go after he had an outstanding game: a number of top class saves, commanding his area and a few saves at point blank. He said his manager had challenged him to be consistently having those type of games and that he would need to - to keep his spot in that division.
At the moment we are happy with a performance from JB where he does not make any blunders. It is a long time since we had a match winning performance from JB if we are honest. We have to go back to Grant who almost single handedly kept us in the prem with consistently brilliant performances and for JB back to his 1st season here.
JB, we all know, has the potential to become a great keeper, but I am not sure he is being coached correctly at Stoke and needs a move for his own sake. He is still fairly inexperienced in terms of the amount of seasons he has been playing 1st team football, but for me keeps making the same mistakes and bad choices and a lot of his errors could be coached out: he gets his angles consistently wrong, has to make the 6 yard box his own and his one against ones are shocking - all of that stuff does not come down to ability, but coaching and learning from game-to-game - he just seem to be learning here at the moment

Yesterday he was 100 percent better coming for crosses positively. The one he came out for in the second half was a great claim which he wouldn’t have come for previously. Needs to do it consistently. If he does he’ll get his big move. No agenda.

One of the worst aspects of Jack's long decline has been the seeming lack of influence from the coaching set up at Stoke. I don't know Andy Quy and I know even less about goalkeeping coaching - but any positive impact he has had on Jack's performances in the past couple of seasons seems to be non existent. It was no surprise to me when he left the club recently. Hopefully, Jack's improved performance this week has something to do with the new goal keeping coach. And hopefully a positive reaction from fans (and the rest of the team?) will convince Jack that he needs to produce more of the same in the remaining games this season.
Physically Jack seems to have it all. His problems seem to be in his head. A Chinese proverb says "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" - let's hope yesterday represents the first step on a long journey to rehabilitation.

Last week every decision he made seemed to be the wrong one - yesterday he was solid. Nearly got done by the cross but he made sure he got enough on it to put it out and then dealt with the resulting corner. He’s more than capable of being the best keeper in this league, he needs to keep it up. He can be a big difference for us.

It's as if West Brom and numerous other games where he has come for crosses and commanded his box never existed. Your definition of the word numerous is clearly different to mine. I'm not saying that yesterday was his ONLY good game in the past few seasons. There have been others but they have been far too few and far between. As I said above, I don't just blame Butland, I lay a lot of the blame at the door of his coaches. If an outfield player had played so many rank bad games as Butland has, they would have spent a lot more time out of the team OR they would have responded to criticism with much improved performances. We all want to see a consistent improvement in Jack's form. Hopefully the new coaching set up will enable that to happen. If it does then we'll either have a top keeper on our books - or we'll get a decent fee for him. Either way the club and Jack will benefit.

I hope he learns from it and moving forward he comes to make high claims whenever he can. It just makes no sense having the tallest player on the pitch who can use his hands rooted to his line at all times.
