It will be interesting to see if we can handle Pearson on Wednesday.....given the similarity to the way he attempts to control the game a bit like Rooney did for Derby!
Some on here said we should have man marked him.....what do we do with Pearson? Press him, man mark or just play our own game? Is Gallagher still playing as him and Pearson murdered us last year.
Really good watershed game to see how far we have come?

I’d be telling Powell to wind him up from the first minute.

I think we expected Rooney to play higher than he did and the players were instructed to close him down, that left space for Duante Holmes who made our life hell. Players like Pearson, N'Zonzi or 'Derby Rooney' are difficult because it's hard to effectively man mark them. They aren't typically going to score or assist directly themselves so in some ways I think we're better off not paying him too much attention and playing our own game imo. Powell is snide and I fancy him to make thing atleast frustrating for Pearson but to be honest, Pearson himself is maybe more snide.

Man mark a bog standard holding midfielder? Great tactics Hardly bog standard is he?Probably the best holding midfielder in the championship and could make the transition to the premier league easily imo.

Hit him early, take the booking and then see what he's got.

I don’t think it was a surprise how deep he was, that’s how he’s been playing. Powell needs be niggly with Pearson as he is a hothead.

I felt like we had Allen and Clucas push him too at times though which seemed a bit suicidal in the first half...

He's a walking red card. Time for Nick Powell I believe.
Let's test him...

I've seen him play against us and also on the very few occasions Preston are on telly and he's looked average every time.

The same people that are saying how good Pearson is were saying the same about Ryan Woods.
He's an above average Championship footballer with a penchant for a yellow card.

Not sure about the “same side as Saturday” bit tbh.
Campbell is coming back from 2/3 weeks out and is a bit injury prone, so I’m not sure I’d start him with 4 games in 14 days to come.
And with that in mind too he’s got to make some changes with keeping players like Powell fit, keeping the midfield fresh in mind.
It’s a tough little period where we need to use the squad well.

Start Campbell at home, use him from the bench away if he needs a rest at the weekend. I don’t want to see Vokes plodding around on his own up front in a home game, Preston will take us apart if we don’t have any pace up front to stretch the game.

Diouf should be starting on Wednesday as he’s the only one who comes close to what Campbell does. Campbell looked shattered after 50 minutes yesterday and that’s completely expected. He was rubbing the back of his right thigh a lot too. We need to protect him and use him wisely.
