When women en mass decided to get careers we got to the stage we are now where you need two incomes to do what one income used to do
Great

My partner would love to stay at home and not work. But as I suspect in most homes the woman works and generally does the house stuff as well( I do try).So in effect their independance has come at a cost, more work.

Gone are the days though where a bloke provided but then (rightly or wrongly depending on view) decided to have 5 pints every night in the pub on his way home A working wife rightly won’t put up with that. Blokes do far more share now of housework, food shopping child care etc for two reasons 1. The wife is working at the same time or shifts. 2. Both people sharing work means the bloke has to pull his weight at home too. But like I said standards of living has not doubled as income has

But like I said standards of living has not doubled as income has In fact it has created poverty because a lot of the people living on a single income (or a bit of a low double income), but were fairly happy or, at least, getting by now suddenly find that they have fallen below which ever median income percentage line is used to calculate these things and now they qualify as being in poverty. And they hadn’t even noticed because they actually weren’t any worse off 😳

Paying the wrong tax I remember one of my mates many years ago going in to see his boss and opening with the line "I want to pay more tax"
