Zero atmosphere at St.James Park, the game is certainly dull enough but even the Geordies can't make a bit of noise these days. Sky coverage has it fckd.

The whole premier league football is shocking and has been for years. I can't remember the last full game I watched, I just flick over.
So boring that league is

And our ground is so full of atmosphere! I'm sure that half the problem especially in the Premier is that 4/5 of the teams know they can't win except by parking the bus (it is even the case when teams came/come to Stoke) so the play is very uninspiring with one team just trying to find a way around a deep, crowded defence. That and the fact that most football fans think they are owed entertainment because of how expensive it is. I don't remember being that worried about the entertainment in the 70s for there to be a good atmosphere. It's almost as if you wait for something to happen on the pitch to create the atmosphere. I used to feel the excitement from outside the ground before the game when you could hear the fans inside. Now most people don't take their seats till 5 minutes before kick off.

What's the point if we don't expect entertainment? The expense does come into it but not just the money but the time. Unlike the 70s there are a million other entertaining things that people can do. As for generating an atmosphere there are many factors. Among them: the age of supporters - average age is over 40 Out of town grounds - can't just fall out of a boozer at 5 to 3 anymore All seater grounds Threat of violence has gone - however you feel about it, it certainly pepped things up

We didn't worry in the 70's as most of the crowd were pissed!

I watched MOTD last night and was struck how quiet it was at the ManC game. It could of course be the BBC microphone settings, but it did get loud each time City scored, then deathly hush afterwards again.
I thought about posting this last night but went to bed; this OP reminded me.

Went with her a couple of times at the invitation of her Dad. The one thing I vividly remember was the first time I stood on the Holte end how fucking massive it was compared to the Boothen ! GD
