I thought he was really good in Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister. It was an excellent show and he really added to the overall humour.
RIP Bernard !

He was brilliant in Yes Minister/ Yes Prime Minister.
Back in April 1970 we went on a school trip to London which included going to see a recording of the Basil Brush show with Mr Derek.
There were a number of sets on the stage (including the desk and the sofa) and when Basil was moved from one to the other, screens were pulled across the stage so that no one could see Basil being moved.
RIP Mr Derek

It's only just occurred to me that the Bernard character he played in Yes Minister/Prime Miniter was a vehicle to help explain the ludicrousness of politics. Without Bernard's naivety, many of the more serious points that were been made would have gone over mine and other people's heads at the time. That series became the foundation of my understanding of power politics and is as relevant today as it was back then.

The Yes Minister/Prime Minister series, remains one my favourite comedies of all time. A brilliantly scripted show, superbly acted by Eddington, Hawthorne and Fowlds. I'd love to imagine they're all sharing a glass of Civil Service sherry somewhere tonight. RIP Bernard

One of my all time favourite sitcoms. Derek was a magnificent actor. Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister simply would not have been the huge hits without him personally. The interplay between the three characters was nothing less than exquisite.
RIP Derek. I'll remember you with great fondness.
