Well they are all coming out of the closet now aren't they, the blood clotting, spotty faced, spunk bubble, dirty Y-front wearing, tank top attired, lepers.
Everywhere I go it's Jurgen this, Kloppy that, Salah this, TAA that and Kenny Dalglish that as well! and I live on the fcuking south coast for gods sake.
Where were you lot during the nineties and the noughts, in-between masturbating furiously to the larger lady lingerie section of your mums, Kays catalogue, oh yeh I know, you were all Man U fans weren't you, all Fergie this, Giggsy that, Eric this and Bobby Charlton this as well! It makes me want to furiously vomit my curry flavoured morning porridge all over the postman's sack when he arrives in the next 10 minutes and boil my balls slowly in the engine oil of a Ford Transit van, 51 reg, that hasn't been serviced since it was nicked by a shire horse fiddling pikey in 2009. I am really that angry!!!
Thanks for listening I feel much better now. Wheres that bloody catalogue.

I dont like the gloating you get from glory hunters but in general I feel sorry for them.
When you consider what it is that makes you a Stoke fan the football is only one part of a much wider connection; familial links, community, sociological stuff that I think is ingrained into the culture of the supporters and the city. Even the folks that leave Stoke or haven't ever lived here experience some or all of those things that bring us together.
Your average glory hunter will never experience the highs and lows to the same extent behind their TV screen. If that's what they want out of football then they can fill their boots but I wouldn't be bothering with it at all without the emotional connection.

I'm of the firm belief the biggest downer of not being in the Premier League on a local level is that it creates a lost generation of Stoke fans, our proximity to some giant clubs really doesn't help either. We're just about close enough to them for people to justify it based on geography.
I think this is exacerbated by the fact the ground is not really in the city anymore, living in Nottingham I'm always a little envious of the streets around the City Ground on matchday, it feels like a genuine connection that is independent of success. You rarely see locals in other shirts than Forest or the odd County fan. In the case of the former, their historical success has probably anchored a lot of people. We lack both of these factors.

I used to be bothered a lot by glory hunters. I saw it as an embarrassment when people in (from) Stoke-On-Trent swanned about in Man United or Chelsea shirts. I felt that their inadequacies reflected badly on Stoke City and our city in general - as well as being a bit creeped out by people who are from a city but do not have the shared expression of a connection to that city that comes from supporting your local team.
Now I’m a lot older however I don’t think about it any more. It’s not even on my radar. I mean who gives a fuck really what other people think and do? Ultimately, you look at how shit this season has been for us but then consider, paradoxically, how spoilt we’ve been this season with outrageous mentals that will never be forgotten. Some wankrag from Blurton who supports Man Utd isn’t to be hated. They’re to be pitied. They literally have no idea of how hollow their allegiance is and the deprivation of experience it curses them with.
I should also say, can’t speak for northern S-O-T (where I suspect glory-hunting is much worse) but in SCFC territories I think glory-hunting must be rare when compared to other parts of the country with comparable sized clubs?

Living where I do, I get a feeling of smug satisfaction whenever I see Glory Hunters, safe in the knowledge that no-one thinks that supporting SCFC could in any way be seen as such sad and deviant behaviour The ones that get me angry are the JCL Leicester fans who have such a feeling of entitlement that being 2nd/3rd in the Prem is no longer good enough!?

You have just made me feel nostalgic for the time when posters used to grumble on here about us lacking ambition when we were 'stuck' in 9th the Prem. Surely if you live in Leicester it's not that much of a crime to be a JCL Leicester fan?... or perhaps there should be a cut off for fan base entry, that is enforced when a club gets into the top 6. No more fans please as we want to maintain our authenticity and our credibility!!! Anyway I feel quite unique being a Stoke fan where I work. Johnny No Mates!

They're folk I don't really care too much about to be honest. They're not 'in it' as much as the hoards of proper supporters.
It's like comparing someone who cycles to work with someone who spunks a few grand on a bike and cycles 8,000km+ a year. Speaking from experience.

I will never understand it at all, The team represents your local area when stoke do well it feels good for the area, supporting some team from a different part of the country just seems strange its like going in to the Euros saying I am going to support France because they might win.

How come you're called Guernsey then? Because I moved to Guernsey in 1993 and been working here on contract ever since. I brought a house just outside Vegas 6 years ago and have subsequently build a garage /workshop etc on the acre plot. It's still work in progress. I now travel back and forward from Vegas to Guernsey 4/5 times a year. Earning money in Guernsey and spending it on the house in Vegas. My official home is now the States (but they won't give me a green card (or take the Citizenship test) till I'm living there full time). So in the meantime I pay taxes, property etc in the States (but my income is still taxed by Guernsey). I aim to be living in the US full time in about 3 years once I've finished all the projects I'm working on. Hope that all makes sense GD

I agree.
It makes me sick to meet people in Middlesbrough and Scunthorpe who claim they are Liverpool fans, but at least they are mostly ordinary folk. Unlike when Chelsea or Arsenal are winning when all the London media, "celebrities", etc. jump on the glory trail.
As someone said above, I feel sorry for them. Particularly Spurs (I know a Port Talbot Spurs fan!) who have only won the LC twice in a quarter of a century of massive spending. Couldn't happen to nicer people.

Don't worry - at least you've never been on a train surrounded by ManUre fans like I was on Saturday on my way up to the Millwall Game - saw them all get on at Shrewsbury and Nantwich (and there were a few from South Wales too) and they all looked at me like I was a piece of dog shit they stepped in! As Roy Keane once said, they were prawn sandwich brigade, dressed like the club shop and discussing where to pick up a nandos and a glass of wine before the game, and moaning about being 5th in the league. 5th!! They don't know they are born do they?
As an aside, on the same journey on the way back, I was amongst the south west/Wales independent group of Leeds fans (loads of Leeds fans in these parts) whose company I enjoyed - good bunch who are proper football fans who were there in league 1 as well as the glory days.
Another glory hunter story I have goes back to my school days - I was 'friends' (loosest possible definition of the word) with a Man Utd 'diehard' (you know the type, swanned in every Monday talking about how they won again etc, even though he never went up there or watch any of their games unless they were playing in the Champions League, Cup final or Big League games such as Arsenal and Liverpool and furthermore didn't know anyone in their squad apart from Rooney and Ronaldo - to give you a clue of when this was, they signed Louis Saha from Fulham and this boy first responses were "Who is he?" Followed swiftly by "He must be shit, he only plays for Fulham" after I told him who he was and who he signed from.) Anyhow, when Chelsea won the league, he approached me and said, In these words, "I'm thinking of Supporting Chelsea" I replied, and I must have looked at him with disgust "why's that?" And, without missing a beat, answering defensively, he said, and I quote "Because they are good". Last time I checked in on him on Facebook, he's warbling on about how great Liverpool is and how he's been a lifelong fan. It's all pretty sad and desperate actually.
For me it's simple - women come and go, as do friends, bands and fashion, but your team is your team for life, and there's nothing more satisfying as success after failure and misery and suffering - it actually makes you value success more I think.

It's never remotely bothered me to be honest, it's honestly their loss. If you truly wanted that yourself you'd be supporting those clubs too. I do lack a level of respect for people I meet who are glory hunters though, immediately I disregard a lot of their opinions, rightly or wrongly! I remember for a while I was getting hammered on here because I said I was fond of Manchester United under Fegie and I'm actually marginally closer to Derby than Stoke. All that's stopped now we're doing shite though

I was once on Saturday morning flight from Copenhagen full of Danes with Liverpool shirts on going to the game. They were all jolly enough and made the trip regularly. Liverpool weren’t particularly doing that well at the time. I thought it was quite quirky!

Every so often I'll rip into one my mates who hopped onto the Stoke train only after promotion His email has Liverpool Mad in it which I found quite humorous, and the fact he lives in a house of Liverpool supporters, leads me to be believe he might just be 'Liverpool mad'. He goes on the extreme defensive about it which just doesn't help his case at all really

I don't know if i feel pity or hatred towards the bloody lot. Also have a colleague who supports Vale and Liverpool. How? What the hell? Is there any hope for them?

So I was driving to the dentist the other morning, with my Stoke City air freshener swinging proudly from my rear-view mirror. And what did I see? A car pull in front of me, with the IDENTICAL air freshener swinging from their rear-view mirror.
Now that might not be a big deal where you live, but it is where I live.
Just goes to show that there are GLORY HUNTERS all over this world...!!!
