Is anyone partaking? I used to drink most nights but I haven’t had a drink all year so far. I thought it would be boring / difficult but the opposite is true and I’ve started running again.
I won’t quit completely as I’ve got stag do’s and weddings this year, but I don’t think I’ll do much drinking at home in the future. Quite a surprising outcome.

I have a simple rule with myself if i have nothing planned socially i dont drink.
I usually drive to the match every home game but yesterday got train. Went in White Star then the match etc back to Alsager where a pint was had watching Lpool Spurs. In total for me 4 pints yesterday. My birthday next week having a couple as out for a meal. Then week after its a session with lads in Chester we will be on real ale all day so about 7 8 pints will be had.
After that though into February i have no plans so i wont drink at all. I never drink at home personally dont see the point. I certainly dont drink in the week its just not for me i like to go into work with a clear mind. The weekends where im not meeting socially for a drink will be spent drinking Juice or water. Its also nice those weekends being fresh up early out usually involving exercise.
Glad your enjoying not having a drink. You can enjoy it as much as having a drink.

I have a system of sorts as we’d got to point where 5-6 nights a week we’d drink. I decided we’d effectively dri nk weekends and very occasionally if we’d had a shit day in the week and numerically that’ works out about 12-13 days a m9nth and the rest are dry. Kids still young so some nights I couldn’t if I wanted as committed to being taxi dad. Over the year works out I usually come in about 160 days , which works out as over 200 days I don’t drink.
So when the dry January and stopTober mobs harass me at work, it’s quite easy to say “ I don’t drink about 7 months a year”! January always a quiet month albeit I’ve had a few yesterday and today but won’t til next Saturday now

The last couple of years I've done Dry Jan and extended it to Feb / March, before the wheels come off and I'm back to drinking like a lunatic.
This year will be no different.

In truth I’like’doing sober, but it doesn’t fit with our culture. Big issue for me is I like meat & I find it hard to do without wine. 1st World problems!

Never done dry Jan but over the years I've cut back on what I drink.
I try to have at least 4 dry days every single week. Quite often manage 5 though, with a few drinks over the weekend.
I've been investing lots of time in fitness these past few years. For the past 6 months I've been really into my running and I've done plenty of 5ks and 10ks. I'm now training for my first half marathon. Aside from the physical benefits, the mental boosts are unbelievable. It puts me in such a positive frame of mind.
When I was younger I used to love boozy weekends. Sometimes 3 or 4 nights on the trot, heavy sessions back to back. The hangovers just aren't worth it though, never mind the damage you are doing to your body. Then theres all the other negative side effects, depression, anxiety, paranoia etc.
I love a beer, I just enjoy it in moderation now I'm older.

Had 4 pints on the 3rd Jan but that's it so far. Generally always cut back in January and don't generally find it difficult but it does get fucking boring at times and reaching Friday and not getting a few bottles in is the hardest part. Going to more or less kick drinking in the house in the head this year and make it more of a social thing, as it should be.
Have a wedding on the 1st Feb which is nicely timed.

I was getting offered all sorts of tablets to sort it some making me feel worse just generally i felt rough most days. I thought hang on i can do somthing about this myself so i did. My week now consists of Chicken Fish Fruit in my diet no red meat until the weekends. It also consists of the Gym 3 nights a week plus golf practice. Walking at the weekends in the country. I'm sure that quite a few of us like the ale a bit too much. I certainly do. Once I start, I forget where the brake pedal is, and the handbrake.
Most (probably all) of my old drinking pals are now dead (they died in their 50s). It certainly is time for myself to start "liking less, more".

Unless it's half term I only drink on Fridays and Saturdays (reined it in a lot from early 20s when I was getting worried about myself), but I tend to drink like some unstoppable maniac once I get going and just nail it back. Can top 30 units in a sesh without thinking twice, then do the same on the Sat.
No problem saying no to the first drink but I bloody love it once the wheels are in motion.
Bloody dipsomania. It'll get ya.

I just took it a bit too far on one occasion and without actually being drunk my body reacted badly. I blacked out and after 20 continual minutes of roadside CPR I was put in the ambulance and went into cardiac arrest twice needing to be zapped to get my heart into rhythm again. This was only last Easter. If there were ever an incentive to lay off the grog for good that was it. Used to love my beer and wine but the risks are too great for me to ever be tempted again.
