Only complete fucking peedos have condiments/tomatoes on their oatcakes. Bacon, egg, mushroom, sausage and beans. That's it. Maybe an onion. A whole onion? How do you roll the oatcake? Like a snowball.

An oatcake with cheese and raw onion cut into slivers and grilled is magnificent. Absolutely with you there, with a bit of black pepper and lashings of brown sauce I could eat about ten of them no bother

Now that we’ve been kicked off the mainboard & gone completely off topic, how do you feel about butter on a bacon sandwich...

Do they do Oatckes and Pies at Clayton Wood I wonder?
Ps Butter on a bacon sandwich is disgusting and can be quite messy. 🙂

The bacon heats up the butter so it soaks into the bread, along with the bacon juices. Artery clogging? Deffo? Taste good? Deffo as well. And just like on oatcakes I emphasise it must be Lurpak.

Reason I bought it up, I was in a cafe this morning & a woman ordered a bacon sandwich & the bloke asked if she wanted butter & I’ve never had butter on mine(bacon dripping definitely)but I suppose it’s logical, it’s a bacon butty.

My nephew is LCFC, has never lived in Stoke, works in the City and is minted. He thinks nothing of spending £300+ on a meal for two. (On visiting the Fat Duck at Bray he thought it was quite reasonably priced. ) Yet one of his favourite foods is Wrights Pies. Whenever he comes to visit his first port of call is Wrights Pies in College Road where he buys a stock of pies to take back to London. Can't fault the lad. Just looked at that fat duck menu No chips or fries......load of bolllocks I know Heston serves some weird food but what side do you have with a plate of Bollocks?

Can we agree that the fray bentos pies in a tin are shit 🤷♂️ Single mans dream food. call in pub on way home after work and stay longer than you intended. Get home , take lid off and bung in the oven with oven chips, for about 30 mins. Brilliant. Health warning; Do Not Fall Asleep whilst waiting. 😜

Oatcakes - at the risk of being burnt at the stake (me, not the oatcakes) - stick em in the oven in some tin foil with some butter and eat them instead of a naan bread with your favourite curry* *Idea copied from the paper edition of the Oatcake (they recommended vindaloo) from many years ago, I'm still not sure if they were taking the piss to this day but it works very well regardless 😄

I prefer the Pukka as well, you could get them in the freezer section in Heron, probably still can, rarely seen them hot outside of chippys as you say. There was a chip shop in Southsea that used to sell Wrights Pies when I lived around the corner from it, bit strange I thought. Tesco sell Pukka pies. Not sure if they do the meat and potato variant though. With regards to your second point - I've bought Wrights pies in East London and Belfast in the past. I used to have a laminated chip shop poster that featured a man and his date in posh evening attire, sitting in a fancy motorcar with the strap-line "socialise with Pukka pies". disclaimer: it was laminated because I got it from a chip shop, not because I wanted to enjoy the poster that way.

Absolutely not Lurpak! It has to be Anchor butter, and not the "spreadable" stuff. neither Anchor "Light", or the salt reduced one - the good old fashioned Anchor in a block.

Including a fray bentos pie can’t decide whether it was lucky or unlucky he took it out the tin and popped it in the fryer. Made a right ducking mess good job it was an electric on not on the hob otherwise it could have burnt the house down. To be honest though a deep fried minced beef crispy pancake buttered sandwich after a night out was manna from heaven and he was a dab hand at making those.

That has got me thinking about steak and kidney puddings. The ones that my Mum made were amazing. Those from the Chippies are ok. Those Frey Bentos ones are vomit inducingly aweful!

I am head chef in our house (just me and the missus). I can cook pretty much everything and when we "eat out", I often think to myself "Mine is better". My wife usually agrees. We don't "eat out" very often as a result. We took a 37 day cruise about this time last year. Virtually every meal, I would ask my wife something like "How is your lamb?" The reply was aways "Not as good as yours". I do appreciate that she may be favouring me being head cook at home for obvious reasons but ....
There are two things that I haven't tried cooking, Steak and Kidney Pudding, and Lemon Meringue Pie. There is a reason for that - I know that I can do it, but do I really want to put on a stone or two in weight?
