I don't like Wright's pies much anymore. I used to love them as a little piece of pastry encased heaven. It leads me to the philosophical question... did I change or did the pies change? Mind you last time I had one we reached the world cup semi-final. Like oatcakes....I must be the only person from Stoke who doesn’t get them at all Very overrated are oatcakes No mate there not there wicked with brown sauce n bacon

My pie was delicious. Then again i did get it from wrights in town along with a Viennese cake, and for both, it was a quid cheaper than the pie at the ground. Stadia catering is just a rip off. Exactly! I would never pay £3.50 at the stadium when you can get a red hot meat & potato at the Wrights shop for £1.70, it’s still warm and delicious at half time.

Marlady who is Irish loves Wright's pies. Whenever we are over we bring back 2 dozen for the freezer.

I actually think that the shortcrust pastry on the M&T pies is pretty good. I'm not such a lover of the flaky pastry on the other pies. Of course warming up the pie simply has to be done in an oven. Microwave will ruin the pies in seconds.
When I come back home to visit, I too return with a bag full of M&Ts and two dozen oatcakes - all for the freezer.

Not sure if they have a Food & Beverage Manager, but keeping the pies in a heated cupboard or hours is not right for the public or the pies & i don't understand why they buy those plastic cups of tea/coffee that you just add water to, it is so much cheaper to buy a catering bag of PG tips, it is not hard to work out what is needed for a Match based on the capacity of the stadium & who/what match we are playing.

Yes I agree. They are selling at premium prices - we should get better quality.

They do miniature Wrights Pies in the hospitality suites. They're pure magic, although I can't eat more than 12. You can throw the rest at your mate Tommy Smith 😀

I don't know if the fayre served up in Block 16 yesterday was in isolation but the Wrights pie I had yesterday was fucking shit. It was supposed to be meat and potato but I can only describe it as a 'pastry pie'. The pastry itself which was 90% of the make up of said object, was dark brown, thick and unbreakable, the inside contained what can only be described as a blob of soap. Utter waste of £3.50, and a shocking advert for Wrights. Serve them up in hospitality boxes and see what the reaction is. I was born in Stoke in 1965, moved with family to Norwich in 1970s, father was Stoke mad and it rubbed off on me and days at the Vic, I guess we had some team then as well to follow. Only get to 2 home games a year now, odd away game - but watch streams each week....This pie article has given me the biggest smile, you local guys that proper support the club and have the Stoke humour are brilliant really. Watch a 0-0 with Millwall, I suppose the pie should be the highlight. Up the Potters, dont ever lose your sense of humour.

Lets be honest dont know if its the same in everyone's stand but in Franklyn Stand upper the catering staff well not great service but to be fair to them they are all kids who dont really wanna be there. Earning probably a crap wage. Sure they would much rather be out with there mates or doing somthing else. I dont buy from it. Maybe a Bovril on the odd occasion which is just about drinkable.
Its the lad serving beer that gets me. He lets the queue build up whilst serving so much he cant cope then complains the lines too big yet he contiues to talk rather than pour. Suppose im being harsh hes just being friendly.

It really is pie roulette every week. Get the one from the front and it's usually fine but you could brick an house with the ones at the back.

Wrights meat and potato pies are the dog's bollocks You are right ...thats pretty much the ingredients.... Never been the same since the business was sold and the factory moved from Hanley to Crewe...the "meat" is a grey colour what there is of it ,the pastry too thick and its seasoned to death to give it flavour... . Its pigs ears ,arses ,tails and trotters...nowt else..vile. The best pies are The Great Northern Pie co from Altrincham sold on the farmers markets around Cheshire..At Rode Hall first Saturday in the month...I buy them by the dozen and freeze them..lovely!

What’s with some of the Wrights shops now being called Woods(?), have they been bought out or something?

Tbh, it wasn't me that got worked up over it was it

Bollocks I was supposed to be on a diet. After reading this thread I want a wrights pie, custard slice, sausage roll, an oatcake with onions and whatever Hendo's relish is. The lunch time salad is way less appealing now than it was an hour ago.

If the pies have been knocking around the ground for a while then maybe we can offer them a coaching position as has been regularly suggested for some of our former players. Or build a statue out of them. Legends.

The lunch time salad is way less appealing now than it was an hour ago. You won't regret the onions, sauté them good though or they too closely resemble proper vegetables. Also Hendos is Hendos and I won't see it compared to any unmentionable perceived alternatives.

An optician friend of mine always claimed Wrights Pies are bad for the eyes. People strain 'em looking for the meat.

Did they change the name to "potato and meat pie" a few years ago after a trading standards request or is that an urban myth?
