On the other hand, ping balls in to Dioufs feet 46 games a season and he controls none. We should not be getting rid of Gregory. Especially with an injured Campbell and Vokes isn’t exactly great is he The ball regularly bounces off Gregory, I’m not buying into this “ he holds the ball up well” argument. He’s totally ineffective, and had pretty much missed every gilt edged chance he’s had all season...... He holds the ball up miles better than anyone else we have. Fact

In recent history it was always the case that the forwards that weren’t scoring many was down to service. Now Greggers has missed plenty of decent chances and should be on many more goals than he is for us. If he goes elsewhere and starts banging then in it’ll be bizarre.

Neil Harris rates him and he was a striker, good luck to him. If he put away his chances you'd be gutted he was moving, sadly he doesnt do it often enough, or at least he hasn't for us

He’s a lot better. Put a fit Diouf against a fit Gregory over a 46 games season and Diouf our scores him every time.... On the other hand, ping balls in to Dioufs feet 46 games a season and he controls none. We should not be getting rid of Gregory. Especially with an injured Campbell and Vokes isn’t exactly great is he There is no possibility Gregory would ever get into double figures in a Premier league season and he has hardly won a header this season. Diouf is quicker, better in the air, gets more chances and converts more. If we want someone up front to ping the ball to, Diouf is our best option because he can win headers and run in behind. Ican tbelieve anyone would want to keep Gregory, he is a top end League 1 player at best

No issues with Gregory going We play one up top Vokes Diouf Campbell We could ideally do with one more BUT when Gregory plays he misses so many chances. I personally think Diouf has the same engine , is better in the air and scores more. To cut wages and be within FFP if I had choose one I’d choose to keep diouf. would even consider Gabriel Kyeremateng as back up

Washington? Now that would be taking the NI connection too far.

If we're going for anything with an Ulster connection, is Frank Carson still alive?
He'd be a cracking signing.

But as a back up who may get limited game time I guess it would not be the absolute end of the world. How is he getting on in the U21's this season?

Washington would be lacking fitness wouldn't he? Torn hamstring in September, ruled him out for 3 months. No point getting rid of Gregory if he ended up being the replacement.

Christ... If it's that much of an 'emergency' then just keep Gregory. He's an okay footballer that sadly cannot finish and I wouldn't be fussed about shipping him on, but what's the point in swapping him for someone with a worse goal-scoring record?

Unless a half decent replacement is lined up then he won’t be going anywhere. Campbell and Vokes then diouf as back up who can’t hit a barn door either.

I’d rather we kept Gregory than sign Washington.
Or get rid of Gregory and no one is preferable to Washington too.

He wouldn't be expensive would he? 8 games, 1 goal for Hearts, but taking into account the injury mind. He was a free transfer, but I'd bet on £800k to a mil would do it, even though I'd rather us stick an extra few quid into Shankland, but Nicko reckons it's a no go. If we considered paying more than that for Washington, we need sending to the loony ward.

I wonder how many other Championship clubs are operating with 4 strikers paying the wages we are, especially ones near the bottom.

He’s likely not got a future at Hearts, so I guess a loan is possible, but he is a downgrade on Gregory. Liam Boyce is the nailed on starter up front at Hearts and he looks a cracking signing after his performance in the Rangers win.

Could be that any/every Irish player is linked now. Or MON is thinking if he can get the NI squad here the he can work on them before the play-off games

Gregory has 33 goals in 151 apps at Championship level.
Washington has 13 in 107 apps.
