The notorious left leaning, part EU funded IFS writes article for The Independent incorrectly saying that Boris is pursuing a 'hard Brexit'. Clickbait for the BDS mob. If its true its true, left or right who cares? According to your logic no-one tells the truth. It's a political opinion. Not 'the truth'.

Big defeat for local Tory's: big win for low paid workers and council service users.
Taken from Labour party Stoke Central
Stoke Council has rejected Tory budget proposal that would attack the poorest people in the city. The Council meeting told its Tory leader, Abi Brown, to demand the Tory government puts their money where their election promises are and 'level up' the city's budget. Hampshire, Surrey and other traditional Tory areas have all got better grant settlements from government than we have, even through our needs are greater. Rather than take on their political masters, and tell the government to honour the election pledge, the local Tories proposed to cut the wages of some of the councils lowest paid workers. Up to 900 could lose £3000 a year - each!
And, to continue their attack on the weakest, the budget proposed huge cuts to Adult Social Care. The ball in now in the Tory court - they must bring back an alternative budget to next council - on March 6th.
P.S. Has anyone seen the MPs recently?????

Council leaders will borrow £125 million to spend on 1,000 new affordable homes in Stoke-on-Trent over the next five years. BORROW is the crucial word. More house are good, but what is going to be cut to build them? I thought SOT was promise a large grant from central government? Pity maybe the EU would have given SOT the money instead of borrowing it. People should be fuming. Us debt is 25 trillion dollars. Please explain how the world works without borrowing. Since ending Gold standard, as the international currency of exchange, the US can basically print money. They dont like talk about it this way but it's clearly true. UK Local authorities dont have this privilege. Although I agree borrowing money to invest isnt necessarily a bad thing anyway. Our best years were under Keynsian policies.

We’re heading into a an overdue financial meltdown blamed on the coronavirus. The 2010-2019 decade is the first decade without a us recession since the 1850’s. It’s long overdue, and will probably be devastating this time due to global debt being at an all time high. Banks are fucked imho.
Buy crypto. Probably.

I blame this generation. They had a chance to kick the tories out ,but no,they voted for more hardship and an extremely bleak future for an already bleak and desperate city. With the lack of activity on this thread regarding local issues it seems that people are not really interested tbh.

Wring your knickers out and realise the world is about to see the biggest recession for some time. This isn’t about Stoke on trent, the world economy is unsustainable. Inflated recently by the us federal reserve.

This Tory led council have really turned this City round haven't they. Fucked up children's services and now have to spend everything on correcting that at the expense of anything else and been shat on by a Tory Government with more funding cuts.
What a job they're doing.

So once the £934,000 of cuts to council workers was removed by reducing the council's general reserves next year by £934,000 the Independent and Labour councillors passed the original budget. Stoke Gov.uk" Through the agreed budget, council tax will rise by 3.99 per cent, 1.99 per cent of which will go towards supporting vulnerable families and people in Stoke-on-Trent while the remaining two per cent increase will be for adult social care to respond to additional social care pressures. The budget will see a record £139.8 million spent on adult and children’s services in the city in the next 12 months. Adult and children’s services account for 61 per cent of the overall budget of the city council" I thought you Socialists believed in tax and spend?

I think it's the one being built next to the M1, which is being widened to 'smart' motorways, 4 huge warehouses being built, John lewis and Waitrose already in 2, new housing estates nearby being built and a road being widened to a dual carriageway, lots of investment

If Stoke can't even be 'Warehouse on Trent' then it is truly fucked.
