Well he’s had 2 poor games in a row, so I’d give him Millwall and then chuck Verlinden in. An unknown quantity who didn’t command a place at Bolton (he played 90 minutes twice), who I’m sure you’ve barely ever seen play. But I guess it suits your agenda. I’ve seen him play quite a bit actually. My agenda of wanting the best for this club, yes it probably does!

I haven't read the whole thread (so I have I no idea what, I assume, complete bollocks Bayern is saying) but McClean has been absolutely outstanding this season.
Whilst Bayern has been praising the absolutely pathetic Ince, Mac has been carrying us on the opposite flank.
We're in the shit and McClean is absolutely the type of player we need to get us out of this.
Bayern would rather have his head in the clouds, lauding after the worst player most of us have ever seen.

bUt HiZ cRoSsEs aRe ShIt 😁 Cue bayern to qualify the stat to suit his agenda It’s not hard is it? It’s a meaningless stat unless you have the % that are accurate. Which I would imagine is pretty crap because he fires in loads of crosses usually to no one. My inference from 'successful crosses' is that they were accurate to a team mate, presumably if they weren't accurate they would be unsuccessful. For wingers assists can be quite revealing as sometimes the cross is so good that the forward doesn't need to do anything other than get his head on it. (Not many of those at Stoke though.!)

That’s exactly what it is. If he’s put 50 crosses in and finds a team mate 30 times then that’s great. If he’s put 100 crosses in and finds a team mate 30 times then that’s ok. Etc etc etc The total number of successful crosses remains the same. The key is how many crosses he’s attempted.

It is still the same number of chances created. I'd rather have crosses flashing into the box making defenders work than one accurate cross now and then. Same with shots. I'm so glad to see the likes of Campbell, Verlinden and N'goy taking a risk with their shooting than the 'after you' rubbish we were getting earlier on this season. Make the defenders worry is my mantra. One of your shots may be accurate if you keep shooting on sight. If you keep passing trying to create a clear opening the defenders just need to crowd you out.

Should never have signed him in the first place. He's bang average at best and splits the fanbase of any club he's ever played at. Plus when playing for the Baggies he turned his back whilst 'God save the Queen' was being played. So for me, the man is a cunt.

I don't care how many butter adverts Lydon has done, he wrote the lyrics to God Save The Queen and thats alright by me. And Anarchy in the UK, which I prefer, if I had to choose. etc.

So do you prefer a winger who keeps waiting until he can pick out a player with a cross and loses the ball to his full back before he crosses? To me even an incomplete cross can create a chance if it is not cleared properly. Our problem seems to be getting players coming in on poor clearances. I don't know what Etherington's success rate was but my memory of him is running at his fullback then whipping in a cross. It's up to the forward to get on the end of it.

He's not that quick though is he. If we can't get players in the box for his crosses surely that's a concern for the strikers. As for keeping the ball what is the point of it in a none dangerous situation out on the wing. He is not a tricky winger who can beat numerous players and my reading of Verlinden at Bolton was that he was told not to keep trying to beat players but to get it in the box quickly.

You were saying how well he played out wide. And how he was doing his job as an inverted winger. Whilst the rest of the fans can see hes been absolutely garbage for ages. Tyrese did more in one game that Ince has ever done. Has Ince ever beaten his man? In fact, has he ever tried?

Has been fantastic since he has been played in his strongest position. An absolute nailed on starter if he is fit, an absolute battler who will run at, past, around and through players. Exactly the type of player we need in our current plight.
Some people have blinkered views that they have nailed their colours to the mast over and will not back down through their own pig headedness, it's pointless debating with them, they won't change their views, save yourselves the headache, and your keyboard the taps.
McClean is playing phenomenally at the moment and long may it continue.

According to some on here he can't cross for toffee To be fair his crossing was woeful when he first arrived. He's come on leaps and bounds over the last few months and is probably regarded as our best player. Thinking about it that's true

I don't like McClean (as a footballer, his politics mean nothing to me) but will gladly admit he's been one of our better players of late, but we're 21st in the Championship with the most expensive squad ever assembled and the largest wage bill by a country mile... we don't have any players that have been phenomenal. I agree some people have already made their mind up on him, but equally I think a lot of fans are blind to the fact he's not a technically gifted footballer by the fact he runs through brick walls. That is admirable - however hard work, for me, should be a prerequisite. He's had a few good games as I've said, but that doesn't make him a good footballer. He still creates very little and doesn't score many either. I would swap him (along with pretty much every other member of the squad) in a heartbeat. If people are happy being a lower end Championship team then McClean's your man.

Ideally they both need replacing! McClean v Ince. Would I prefer we had people with crossing ability of Ethers or Pennant, yes of course. But today we have these two plus Verlinden. I am no great fan of McClean, but what I do expect is someone to start with being fully committed, never shirking a 50/50 challenge and preferably someone who will stand their corner. As for Ince.....turns his back when anyone tries a cross in front of him, jumps away from challenges (which is why he never wins free kicks). I accept Jimmy has been average until 5/6 games ago when he has been immense. Ince, so far, has never been close to immense so I am summing it up based on performances - McClean wins hands down and anyone who has seen Ince and gives him 6/10 must either be related or bribed. Don’t forget though this is the same poster who thinks Joe Allen is useless, I rest my case.

Yes phenomenally, in terms of our team and our current status, I'm not saying he is on a par with the greatest in the world, of course I am not, but as a term of expression in relation to the rest of the squad, McClean is miles above everyone at the moment other than Clucas. Hard work should always be a pre requisite I agree, however we have learned, that this isn't what you get most of the time. McClean has been delivering crosses, assisting with 5 of our goals and scoring 4. We've scored 33 all season, he has had a hand in 27% of our goals. Not bad for someone who started the season out of position. Him and Clucas are vital.

Don’t forget though this is the same poster who thinks Joe Allen is useless, I rest my case. I think that is a little unfair. Maclean has been one of our better players pretty much since the daft experiment of playing him at left back ended. It was a bit of a surprise to me, but since being restored to the wing, he has been a model of consistency compared to his efforts last season. I'm not saying we would not need an upgrade if we ever get promoted to the Prem. But, for a side in the Championship, MaClean is fine at left back - or he is if he keeps up his current form.
