Barmouth bridge, been under repair most of the year but almost finished, trains can resume. Took this yesterday, bit of a project in the foreground for any weekend would be mariners!.
I'd mentioned her in the Christmas thread, but here is a picture of Jessica, the newest arrival to the family. We've had her around 2 months or so now, and she is really beginning to settle in. She's already claimed one of the sofas. She's also extremely greedy.
Decided to delay my return to work by 24 hours to take advantage of a lessening in the wind speed today (it was over 60mph yesterday) and further explore the Ardgour peninsula, which is a striking place and not much visited being off the classic tourist routes.
Some days, summits are just murky and misty (and cold!). Like yesterday. This is the group I was with leaving the top of Ben Chonzie hoping to find somewhere out of the biting wind to stop for a bite to eat.
May look like just a field with a church in the distance, but a thought provoking field where the 1403 battle of Shrewsbury took place, (the utter carnage and suffering of battles back then) and the church built a couple of years after to remember those who died

Managed to get out today between the storms to do a couple of hills in Galloway. Pretty miserable day, but it cleared up enough to get one decent photo otherwise it was what could best be described as an atmospheric day. Nae views, but plenty of atmosphere with the cloud very low for the most part.

Anyway, a good workout.
Try see some mountain hares when your out. Lovely things.
Just shows how careful you have to be. This guy was experianced.
Safety is always the first thought in my mind.
But accidents can happen, And on mountains they can be fatal. My worst moment was breaking a rib in a fall on top of mountain a few years ago. The wind in a bealach was so strong it lifted me off my feet and, unfortunately for me, rather than landing in soft snow I hit a rock.
I really feel for that man, his friends and family. I know the ridge he was taking and it can be very tricky in wet conditions.
In winter time I stick to “safe” mountains, meaning a fall will result in injury rather than death, so the Aonach Eagach, for example, is only for a dry summer day. It does feel strange writing this down, but thinking about safety, injury or death, is part of what you do if you enjoy the mountains.
And this is why I enjoy the mountains; how about this for a nice spot for a picnic…
Just back from a few days in and around Norway. What a beautiful country at this time of year!
@ The top of Continental Europe - NordKapp This is the furthest North you can reach by road in Europe, although just to the west there is a point which is a fraction further North. At this point we are further north than the top of Alaska.
