Just listened to this interview by Iain Dale on LBC. Plenty of reference to Brighty's upbringing locally. Another very good player who Stoke never picked up. www.radio-uk.co.uk/podcasts/iain-dales-book-clubScroll to: 86 - Chapter 73 : Mark Bright Fri, 08 Nov 2019

My dad taught him at high school. Lovely bloke is Mark, often came back to school and ran trips to Africa to help schools over there

Grew up across the road from Brighty in Kidsgrove, he famously couldn't get in to the Labour club team.

Really nice, humble bloke.
Great seeing people like Mark Bright being successful in life from a tough start. Underrated player as well I felt..........

Yeah I'd always got the impression he wasn't particularly keen on us
Robbie Earle on the other hand, despite his Vale allegiance, always speaks well of us

Yeah I'd always got the impression he wasn't particularly keen on us Robbie Earle on the other hand, despite his Vale allegiance, always speaks well of us A pity that neither Bright nor Earle ever played for Stoke. Both very good players and dedicated professionals. I often get the impression that, despite their extraordinary wage packets, many players we have signed over the last 3 - 4 years are definitely not keen on us.

I know someone who went to school with Robbie Earl and said he was a Stoke fan as a kid.

Robbie was at Stoke but we released him after he broke his leg I think, the rest is history, incidentally he also lived in Kidsgrove with his wife for a While.

I would say releasing Robbie Earle must be one of our biggest fuck ups at that time. Class player and the driving force behind Vale's resurgence of the late 80s
Right up there with not signing David Platt âšī¸

Earle was at Vale quite some time before he got any good, fair play to him he worked his socks off to keep improving
