We didn’t need a creative player in that game at all..... To be fair, we created a lot of chances in the second half. I fail to see what Powell would have done in the first half when we were pegged back and defending all game. No we didn’t. We created nothing of note bar the McClean volley that takes an unbelievable strike to go in.

Minutes? he's bone idle. You would think that when he comes on he would at least try. Frightened of spraining his big toe is he??

Seems like he will be on his way to me. Hasn't contributed at all. May well be talented but doesn't fit our formation and will not be missed by me at all.

We created nothing of note bar the McClean volley that takes an unbelievable strike to go in. Apart from the several half chances and the regular scrambling in defence that they had to do for 20 straight minutes you mean? What we needed to do was push it out wide more because Vokes was winning everything in the air. Powell has yet to do anything of note since getting here, if he wants to play maybe he should start making an impact when he comes on.

And he hasn’t but he’s barely had a chance.

Couldn't lace Bojans boots, to think we replaced Bojan with sick note Nick another top drawer decision.

I mean, I don’t judge my attacking midfielder/number 10 on the running he’s doing tbh. Its part of it. Judge him on what he creates then, still the same decision, hes a bone idle coward. Cant tackle, cant create, cant run and cant score. He's 6ft tall yet gets knocked off the ball like hes 4 ft and 4 stone.

Well yeah, same. I'd probably start him to be honest, I think the 433 is a bit crap. Boxing Day aside, we've generally looked poor with it. That being said, Boxing Day was good so I won't have a go at him for carrying on! It’s not the formation that’s crap. Liverpool and Man City both play 433. I know, I think it's crap with our players. Or at least with the ones he's starting.

Presumably he's now pretty definitively available.
Wonder who feasibly could be interested?
Total guesswork - but must be on 20k for the next 3 years
And he made it pretty clear over the summer staying local to Cheshire was almost a deal-breaker for any options that didn't allow that.
Although the prospect of his peak-years career being at stake if he stays here may focus his mind
Even so, hard to see a queue forming.
Although we may well accept a lowish fee.

Minutes like Joselu, Berahino etc? There’s obviously something going on (not happening) behind the scenes that is being kept in-house. “To-date” he hasn’t repaid any faith in his transfer, signing on fee or wages. Time will tell

Although the prospect of his peak-years career being at stake if he stays here may focus his mind Even so, hard to see a queue forming. Although we may well accept a lowish fee. 20k is surely being conservative? Possibly! I was trying to be as conservative as possible, but he won't be on peanuts, will he? www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9114001/nick-powell-wigan-cotnract-stoke-wednesday-transfer/Nixon claimed he turned down 20k-a-week at Wigan. www.wigantoday.net/sport/football/nick-powell-decision-will-shape-wigan-athletic-summer-outlook-1-9825129Latics went as far as they could – and then some – to keep hold of the fan favourite. But they were always fighting a losing battle against a big club still benefiting from Premier League parachute payments. The huge chunk of money earmarked for Powell would also allow Latics greater movement in terms of bringing in fresh blood this summer. www.wigantoday.net/sport/football/we-couldn-t-have-done-any-more-to-keep-nick-powell-wigan-athletic-boss-1-9837181Latics pushed the boat out as far as they could - and then twice more - in a desperate attempt to extend the contract that officially expires next week. But Stoke's greater financial muscle - boosted by Premier League parachute payments - blew them out of the water. "Unfortunately for us - and the fans must accept this - when you find yourselves up against Stoke City, and a few other big clubs he was speaking to, it becomes impossible" But whether he's on 15, 20 or 25k-a-week, it's far too much for us to be paying someone who plays in a position we seemingly have no intention of using, apparently see no use for anywhere else - and who can't get in our 18. He's played a measly 300 minutes in the first half of the season.

What's frustrating is he does actually look like a footballer unlike the majority of the squad. How do you know? He hasn't had a single kick in any of his outings thus far, the game just seems to pass him by. He's like a man swimming lengths while a water polo match is going on around him. If he's the saviour we're in more trouble than I thought.

The biggest frustration for me is watching him last season for Wigan at home. He ragdolled Ashley Williams like he was a 17 year old kid and generally roughed up our back four, which at the time surprised me.
Ironically it's everything we're missing now.
Add that to his quality and potentially you have a good player on your hands.
Sadly it looks more likely well see it with someone else other than us.

If he's the saviour we're in more trouble than I thought. He's been very underwhelming in the games I've seen him but what was evident in those games is that he can receive a ball under pressure and not panic and hoof it, he wants the ball even when he's marked and has that great ability to see a pass early even if it's simple. The best player on the pitch today was Tom Cairney, he moved made space and played simple early balls and moved again to receive it back. We don't have anyone capable of doing that apart from Powell

There was a sniff of Leeds interest last season, so who knows? It's a bit sad when you read all the plaudits about his ability. And when you get players who've played for England saying he's one of the best players they've played with, it says it all. Sadly, we've seen nowt. thisisfutbol.com/2019/04/blogs/warnock-wigan-ace-powell-would-find-leeds-very-appealling/“He’s arguably one of the best talents I’ve ever played with. The ability he has and the things he can do on a football pitch, other players just simply can’t do. He not only sees passes, but he executes them too,” www.wigantoday.net/sport/football/you-won-t-find-a-more-talented-player-in-this-division-than-nick-powell-wigan-athletic-boss-1-10118317Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook is hoping not to be burned this weekend by a player he says is ‘one of the most talented I’ve ever worked with’. “He is without doubt one of the most talented players I’ve ever worked with.
“In terms of technical ability, his natural football ability...what Nick sees on a football field, other players do not see.
“He is an absolute elite level footballer who, for whatever reason – and injuries have played their part – his appearance record over the years probably hasn’t been good enough.
www.theleaguepaper.com/featured/9758/robertson-column-powells-rare-talent-is-finally-being-fulfilled/I remember Neil Baker, Crewe’s long-standing coach, saying “He’ll play for England,” as though it were a statement of fact. Mind you, Sir Alex Ferguson agreed.
My new team-mates told me Powell had done things in training that would make you rub your eyes in awe, though not always with the ball.
But his former United coach, Warren Joyce, perhaps best summed up the widely-held view.
“He’s got some talent, but he should have done better than he did at Manchester United, in my opinion. He didn’t and a big part of that is himself,” Joyce said when the pair were reunited at Wigan in 2016.
“He’s got undoubted X-factor talent. He can do almost anything in football, either up front or in midfield. He can run, he can head, he can dribble, he can score, he can tackle.
“The big onus now has to be on himself. If he doesn’t, he could look back in 20 years’ time, and look back on a waste.”
