Maybe Joe has been misunderstood with his ear cupping. Maybe he's asking for the players to be shamed publicly enough on a more regular basis so they are embarrassed enough to put in a performance 🤔 I heard he’s a fan of chorley fm.

The cupping of the ears just shows what a bunch of arrogant, overpaid and spoiled twats we have who masquerade as professional footballers. Someone who has underachieved the best part of 2 years, uncharacteristically does something useful for change (i.e what they are paid to do) and then expects us all to grovel apologetically and feel shame that we ever had the audacity to doubt his supposed greatness. Fuck off cupping ears. That sort of effort is the absolute minimum, the absolute minimum. When you start every game with that effort then your performances will be acceptable

The whole cupping saga also shows how over? sensitive some of our fans are. Joe clapped at the supporters after the match so that will do, at least for me. You give some and you get some, and then you get over it.

Joe Allen is a very good player. Everyone outside of Stoke can’t believe that he’s still here.
We don’t know what we’ve got till it’s gone!

You give some and you get some, and then you get over it. Yeah but it suits the haters' agenda - they can now overlook another MOM performance cos he's an ear-cupper or 'it was only Luton'. Is there a thread for the McClean haters too? His reaction to the crowd was far stronger...

To be fair all everyone outside of Stoke sees of him are his vastly superior performances for Wales aren't they? Yes, in which he’s been great. It’s not a case of a shit player playing shit for us is it? He’s a really good player playing shit (in comparison to the Wales performance) for us. If we’re not getting the best out of Joe Allen then that’s on us. Not him. There’s never a lack of effort from Joe. One of our better players.

The words Joe, Allen and stunning really don't roll off the tongue. The fact that he looked good against an utterley shite Luton side means nothing. Cupping his ears - wtf. How about pointing to the black armband and showing some grace and respect to the Afobe family? Stunning my arse Ha I bet you and a few others didn't know what to do last night - did you even celebrate his goals? Yet another MOM display from Joe, keep up the good work! Another???? Give me strength, he should have been dropped weeks ago. He's been woeful all season, scores a couple against the mighty Luton, and suddenly he's amazing, superb, fantastic Good work? Did you go to Hull?

Ive been his biggest critic at times but tonight he was stunning. Ive seen some ratings etc but today this was a 10. Two stunning goals and he basically created the first as well. Constant press, running the midfield. A faultless display from a bloke who offers so much but frustrates. If he could only show this consistent performance he would galvanize the team, he would lead by example and it showed to the other players..... He can cup he ears all he likes im not particularly arsed tbh. Ive criticised him all season for not showing any reason for him to be in the team but last night after about 20 minutes he was coming deep to receive the ball (which he hasn’t been this season) or pressing well and two goals came from that press last night so fair play to him I hope that he can continue it.

I'm on Bayern's side regarding booing changing the game. Until that point we were playing a containing game. Then Edwards decided to play a negative ball backwards when we were on the attack and that's when the crowd booed. From that moment on the entire team performance changed. The players got stuck in and what followed was a damned good effort.
Players cupping ears to their own fans is just plain stupid. All it does is create a barrier between them and us, and then nobody wins.
After that first twenty minutes Joe Allen gave one of his best performances since he's been at the club. Well done Joe but stop being a silly boy.
OS.

AWOL until the booing and then the performance you describe. Edit - not a 10 though. 8 is fair. Scores two goals and gets an 8? Would 3 get him a 9 and 4 goals a 10?

Joe Allen is a very good player. Everyone outside of Stoke can’t believe that he’s still here. We don’t know what we’ve got till it’s gone! No he isn’t. He’s a cataclysmic abortion of a player and the player I associate the most with our rapid decline. I tell you what we will have when he’s gone, a balanced midfield.

It’s one of life’s mysteries how good players down on their form find a bit of confidence and better form a few weeks before the transfer window 😉 And who could blame him if he was tempted away. It’s been the role he has been given that’s reduced him to the level of performance we are now used to. He’s a good player. Never given less than 100% and never had any appreciation on this board. He put himself in the shop window last night. And people will come in for him.

I don’t think anyone’s being precious here. People have a right to point out the player has shown a complete lack of understanding of why fans are pissed off.
He’s failed to do his handsomely paid job for years. To act like the big man because he’s finally done it properly on one occasion underlines how low we’ve set the bar.

Amazes me how fickle a lot of football fans are. I know we all get caught up in it, because we love the club - but one good game... against one of the worst football teams I've ever seen at Stoke.

Regarding the whole hand cupping incident, he's shown a complete lack of respect to us fans. We've stuck behind this shower of shit and in my opinion these clowns have gotten off lightly from any real stick they deserve. Poor showing that from the captain. I'd dock the cunts wages for a month.

Only one reference to 'headless chicken' on this whole stream to date. A lovely headed goal could explain it of course. I ask you, what's the point of driving forward, scoring twice and making a third, meanwhile covering for everyone else bar McClean? If that's the contribution of a 'headless chicken' I'd like to see the rest of them wearing Tshirts proclaiming "We are all 'Headless chickens' now"

McClean gets stick week in, week out everywhere he goes no matter how or where he plays, so you can understand his frustration. I have more respect for McClean simply because you would be hard pressed to find a player that gives so much every game. He gives his absolute max. regardless of ability or politics or whatever. I'm not sure the same can be said for Allen, there are games where he is chasing shadows and switches off. He certainly doesn't make the most of his ability. Last night an exception (after 30 minutes)

Ignoring Joe for the moment, who was playing poorly until he made his assist, McClean had touched the ball once (and that was a mis-placed pass) before he scored. We were awful all over the pitch until the first went in, but you could almost see the players drop their shackles off as they realsied they might be in with a chance of winning. Their nerves and confidence were shattered going into the game, but they do have to be careful in how they react to the fans. McClean's response was worse than Joe's, but that doesn't mean Joe was right either!
