If Burnley have bid 11 million that sounds about right to me. If his wages are too high for them, Allen will probably come to an agreement/compromise I'm sure, it's clear he's desperate to play top flight football again, and he has the summer tournament to think about. There's no way Wales would drop Allen from their squad (or even starting XI) based on the players they currently have available. Along with the renegotiated contract, it's got to be one of the main reasons he hasn't agitated for a move back to a premiership team (publicly, anyway). £11m is a fair wedge back for a player we signed for £13m almost four years ago, but my concern would be who he would be replaced with. I feel like the 'decline since signing Allen' narrative makes some fans keen to see the back of him at any price, but we've not signed anyone better since he got here, and we're not really likely to in our current situation. He also seems to be doing a lot of media soundbites for the club recently: if he was likely to be off in this window you'd think they'd pull him back from all that stuff to cover their backs.

At 11m we are getting into the range where Teflon Tony will be starting to get interested. Unfortunately, it is very likely that those funds would never see the light of day again and we would be fobbed off with Jordan Thompson as his replacement, particularly if it takes a few days more for Burnley and West Ham to bid against each other and up an agreed fee to closer to 15m. We will be told that there was no time or value in the market to buy a replacement and it will be four central midfielders out and only one in. In the next 12 months we need to raise 20-25 million in player profits to prevent us falling foul of FFP, we'll need more than that if we're giving MON any kind of war chest to rebuild in the summer.

I love reading the Oatie to;
(1) understand FFP
(2) how it affects SCFC
(3) the Clubs “actual” transfer balance sheet which places the club at risk.
Thanks to all who have set out the above

My main contact at Burnley is adamant that they can't afford his wages and that he would become their highest paid player, by some distance, were he to sign. He reckons there has been interest but wages are the stumbling block rather than any potential transfer fee. Can’t afford his wages with the TV money now available to the premiership clubs Nah I can’t see that at all ....it’s small change in reality Can't afford/won't pay his wages. He's on significantly more than their highest earner currently.

www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jan/24/west-ham-told-raise-offer-nottingham-forest-matty-cash-right-backThey have been hit by injuries and Moyes wants to bolster a light squad, particularly in central midfield. West Ham are monitoring Sampdoria’s Ronaldo Vieira and Slavia Prague’s Tomas Soucek, Stoke’s Joe Allen remains of interest and there could be attempts to sign Milan’s Franck Kessié and Nantes’ Abdoulaye Touré on loan.
Moyes would also like to improve his attacking options and West Ham have been offered the CSKA Moscow striker Fyodor Chalov, who has been targeted by Chelsea. A loan with an option to make the deal permanent for £25m has been mooted but there are doubts over whether the 21-year-old Russian would adjust to the pace of English football.

I’m hoping as the days tick by he won’t be going not least because would we really let him go without a replacement?

Lazy journalism (someone, somewhere mentioned him for WHU) or no smoke without fire?
Either way, the speculation is still very much around.
I really wouldn't sell Joe at all but, if every player has his price, I also hope TS has set the bar at £15m for any bids to start.

Probably true actually, as demonstrated by the ease of which we replaced the second and third coming of N'Zonzi with the likes of Jordan Cousins!!!!!!!!! We need to keep Joe Allen for the rest of this season if we can, simple as that. A big money offer might be to difficult to resist though.

I’m sure we would manage somehow.

Unless a big offer comes in, we can’t lose him really. He’s the ball winner in the side and has grown into the game. It’s no coincidence that when he plays well, Stoke started to drag their way into this game in the second period of the first half.

Joe was great today. Sure people only see the few balls he gives away but he has the ball more than other. Most of the chances we had were because he broke up play and played the ball forward. He won more tackles , broke up play so much more than the few balls he gave away. Very rare any forball has a perfect 90 minutes

Best midfielder in this league isn’t easily replaceable it would be madness to sell him now , skipper leader and example to the others £50m wouldn’t get him for me now

Miles better since MON has come in, but I can see him leaving in summer, especially if he continues his form.
He still hasn't got the quality on the ball I'd want, but he is at least playing like an actual midfielder now.
