Still find it hard to believe that he and Villa won the European Cup.

RIP. Still find it hard to believe that he and Villa won the European Cup. He didn't. Tony Barton was the manager.

You're right. No wonder I found it difficult to believe. 😁 In fairness, it was his team and he'd got them through to the quarter-finals before he left, so it's not really a stretch to say he deserves a fair amount of the credit.

Proper football man.
Built a fabulous team. Des Bremner,Mortimer,Shaw,Cowans,Morley flying on the wing.
An era when opposition teams such as Forest and West Brom were still fundamentally likeable even when we were playing them.
I think one of the few things Randy Lerner got right during his reign, was inviting Saunders back to the club for an appearance on the pitch, before a PL game, was the first time RS had been back to Villa since his departure if memory serves?
Hopefully Staffsvilla will be along to correct me sometime soon.😉

Two league cups, a championship and the foundation for the European cup was a tasty haul for Villa.

There was a local radio commentator on BRMB back in the day, don't remember his name, who on match days used to say 'Get out your prayer mats, hail Saunders of the Villa' is his best brummie accent, always made me smile!

There was Big Mal and Big Ron. Headline writers were all hoping for a bog manager named Ben.
