I'm saying that from experience speaking to the Argentina fans at major tournaments I've been to over the years. They think he's a real problem (I guess similar to how we felt about Rooney's inclusion simply to accommodate Rooney). Its a big thing out there and the view is resoundingly that Messi doesn't perform consistently for his country and these performances have gradually worsened in the past few years. He was absolutely non existant in Russia in 2018 and last summer in Brazil. We had a good portion of Stoke fans who thought Arnie and Shaq were utter wank. A lot of football fans don’t know their arse from their elbow. True but you can get a far better consensus from fans who see a player week in week out than you can a neutral who sees their highlights on match of the day.

I couldn't pick who is better between Ronaldo and Messi. But who would I rather pay to watch?
Messi.

Messi has better stats but it could be offset by clubs moved overall.
Ronaldo can head the ball, therefore he’s the better player. They do literally everything but that to the same standard.
I also believe Rooney is the best English player in the last 30 years, probably top 3 all time for me based on what they could do with a football and not just stats.

70 goals in 138 games for Argentina. He's their all time top scorer, ahead of both Maradona (34 goals in 91 games) and Batistuta (54 goals in 77 games). He's also got 42 assists for Argentina, meaning he's involved in a goal roughly every 70 minutes. To questions his consistency with that record is fucking bizarre, and I would suggest the Argentine fans you spoke to are talking out of their arses, mate. They might not like him, but there is absolutely no disputing he's the greatest player to ever represent their country. That's a massive statement. Better than Maradona? Who single handedly (literally) carried his country to World Cup wins, copa America and a hapless Napoli side to being a top European team? Also why would you bring up numbers without context. Rooney scored more goals than anyone in an England shirt, would you really class him as the best English player of all time? He failed in practically every major tournament. Maradona is up there with the best of all time, but Messi is right there alongside him and IMO, is the better if the two. If you need context to prove that Messi is one of the best players the game has ever seen, you might want to consider watching a different sport mate.

Nostalgia is a bitch.
People won’t accept a current player can be classed as one of the worlds greatest. Even when all the stats, pundits young and old agree that the player is.

Ronaldo far above Messi. Equal except Ronaldo is a world class header of the ball. Messi maybe 2nd Division standard. Ronaldo eveeytime. Plus done it in Spain, England and Italy. Messi surrounded by the best team ever for much of his time. Ronaldo win national trophy and scored 100 goals. Don't think he could do much more

You've completely missed the point yet again 😂 At what point have I (or anyone for that matter) stated that Messi isn't one of the best players the game has ever seen? The point was about whether Messi is better than Ronaldo and whether he has peformed consistently in major tournaments for Argentina. Which he hasnt. Not saying Ronaldo has but he has a major international trophy to his name in which he was instrumental in his team winning (albeit not in the final).
