Needs to work on his aftermatch chest thumping, but otherwise very promising

“Difficult to take any positives out of the game”

Not enough time whose fault is that 10 days with NI ? Bonkers or desperate or. Both three games in and players look no better drilled than 4 weeks ago

Not a happy bunny. “Difficult to take any positives out of the game” I think what he was trying to say was Ince was wank! The epitome of possession without a purpose and not getting a cross in on numerous occasions. His forwards/backwards pass ratio must be 1:10

Honest appraisal. Dominated in much of the game but not enough of a cutting edge.

[br Or stated views at the time borne out in reality take your pick Ok I pick premeditation. You’ve been wanting to type that since the two previous games but we won them both so you couldn’t. Pathetic really.

The one positive from tonights game
The manager saw the game in the same way as I think most fans will have seen it. That hasn't happened for a while.
"We're disappointed with the result. We're disappointed with a lot of things on the night. It was a game where we had a lot of possession, close to nearly 70% of possession, but we had possession with no purpose.
"Again we put ourselves in a difficult position because we lose a poor goal. And that's ultimately what decides the game.
"Too often tonight we made the wrong decision in the final third or lacked quality in terms of the final ball. The concerning thing was that we didn't work the goalkeeper very much, we didn't create enough clear-cut opportunities.
"We lost momentum and we didn't play with enough belief which was disappointing given we've won back-to-back games."

On a disappointing night very good to hear some sensible, honest and detailed post-match analysis from the manager.

Hugely encouraging assessment fom the manager. First time I've heard an honest, reality-based post-match interview from a Stoke manger in literally years.

He knows exactly what the problems are and he's going to work on them.
He sees it as I did which is a massive plus, he'll get it right I'm confident.

I hope he does but he’s failed the first one and that’s Woods. Woods should not have been the deep man tonight based on the evidence in the last two games. Woods defensively in the last two games has been an issue yet he plays him there again and again he costs us a goal with poor defensive play.

I agree but I don't think he'll make the same mistake twice The problem is he hasn't had time to find his squad out. I'm very confident he'll sort it out. He's not a Rowett or Jones that's for sure. It won't take him long.

If woods plays 20 games between now and end of season we will almost certainly be relegated.

Like I say he's just trying to get the best out of the players as he sees it (without much to go on) I'm sure he'll sort it out. I think he'll play 2 sitting midfielders and play Powell at home.

But what gets me is I saw it on the same evidence he had. I didn’t want it. And it’s cost us again. Time is irrelevant here. I’m not writing him off or any of that shit as I think he seems a very good manager. But I just thought he’d pick up on it quickly and act especially when he had to being Badou in the side anyway. Same with the CBs. One of them needed dropping tonight for me after the weekend. But that was a lot tougher call but again they cost us.

He won his first 2 games, he'll learn more from tonight than those He wants balls pumping into the box early, they've been used to 2 managers pussy footing around trying to play possession football. It'll take some work on the training ground and for Verlinden to be recalled to get it working. He knows what he wants and I'm sure the players will be drilled very soon.

He did but Woods still showed the defensive frailty in both. Winning doesn’t hide these things. That’s not that hard to coach is it really? And adds more questions about why Woods in the team at all if that’s what you want?

Drop a centre half for who? Collins should be playing. Hes injured and has been carrying an injury for several weeks. He is, however, the only youngster at the club good enough to be playing regularly when fit
