Anyone seen it yet? Only a week until it's on Netflix, can't wait.
Scorcese, De Niro, Pesci, Pacino, Keitel.... It's going to be a masterpiece, right?

Not seen it yet, but have been following it and awaiting it's release with much anticipation since it was first floated. That director with that cast and the subject matter at hand is a dream made in heaven, mark my words this is going to clean up at the Oscars. New records will be set.

New records will be set. It's criminal (no pun intended) that Scorcese only has one Oscar, and for probably one of his more 'meh' films too (The Departed). I'm still fuming that Goodfellas lost out to Dances With Wolves 😏

I’m currently reading the book the film is based on.
You can see why Martin Scorsese wanted to make a film of it - it has all the ingredients he likes to use in his gangster films, but this takes things up a level or two for example the Kennedys feature heavily.
I’m sure the films will be very good. But it needs to be excellent to stand alongside some of his other work.

Been the cinema especially to see this.
Was great - 9/10.
De Niro and especially Pesci are excellent in it. Very different feel to Goodfellas and Casino, a lot more quiet and reflective.

Possibly the best. Fantastic film. Will put it on my list 'King of Comedy' was one of the first DVDs I ever bought. De Niro can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned - IMO he's simply the finest American actor of his generation. Jack Nicholson is probably the next best, but for me no-one will ever top de Niro. Did you all see him as Al Capone in 'The Untouchables' (+Kevin Coster) - superb, superb, superb - and absolutely terrifying. He was even more terrifying as Max Cady in 'Cape Fear'. He's literally awesome. Respect, respect!

Not to mention Godfather 2
And Meet the Parents.
Superb actor.
Even in comedies he scares the crap out of me.😁

So there are plenty of similarities in both plot and mood (and excellence!). But Joker is its own film.

Watched this yesterday - and had mixed feelings about it.
First the good
The acting is absolutely superb. Den Nero, Pesci and Pacino deliver brilliant performances.
The film does add something different to Scorsese’s previous works - this is far more reflective with none of the excessive cartoon violence he uses in the likes of Goodfellas and Casino. Its more reminiscent of Once Upon a Time in America in its study of friendship over a long period of time.
The directing and filming and soundtrack are all of the highest standard.
Now the less good
I thought the adaption of the book was poor. The film, by trying to capture all the big moments in the book, missed out a lot of the back story that connected and made sense of those moments. This meant the plot of the film was disjointed as you moved clumsily through the various scenes.
The last hour of the film is too long. The story was told after 2 1/2 hours. That final hour could have easily been delivered in less than 30 mins.
The portrayal of Jimmy Hoffa was not faithful to the book. (The other two principal characters were though). Scorsese presented Hoffa as some sort of rough diamond. The book shows he was as bent as they come - skimming huge sums of money from the pension fund of the Union for personal gain as well as being in cahoots with the mob providing them with vital cash for their Vegas developments.
Conclusion.
Well worth a watch, though don’t worry if you doze through the final 60 minutes.
7/10

It was simultaneously over & under acted. I thought there was a part when Pacino forgot, then remembered his lines. If you think that is reminiscent of Once...in America...

Watched it last night and agree with others that it was a little clumsy and I thought the ending was a let down. That being said I enjoy a bit of mob violence and will likely watch it again. You know a good film when it a good watch the second time around.

You know a good film when it a good watch the second time around. That’s true, I haven’t watched it yet but usually three hour epics aren’t the best watch the first time around. It’s when you watch it the second time and it feel like it was on for half an hour you know you enjoyed it

The lost kingdom series is quality, but is only very loosely based on the warrior chronicles.

I like many of you was seriously looking forward to this.
Love Mean streets etc.
This, however, I found genuinely unwatchable. I managed up until Al Pacino appeared in it and that was me done.
I thought the whole story was tired and trying way too hard to be an OAP version of Goodfellas repackaged for a Netflix audience. Some of the acting was decent, but I don't know if it was CGI or what, it just seemed so static and disjointed. I might be unfair in comparing it to Taxi Driver, Wolf of Wall Street etc.
3/10

Initially the rough diamond thing was there but it soon became a depiction of a ruthless self serving megalomaniac.

Oh how I wanted to like this film.
I thought it was pretty terrible, Pacino was wooden, and I found it pretty self indulgent.
It was a really hard watch.
