Shanklands next move is already in motion, he is a big rangers fan and that’s where he will end up, it’s a well known done deal in Scotland, I have been to Ayr and Somerset park several times over the past few years and having seen him play he looks like he could possibly make the step up to much bigger things, it will not be with us unfortunately. Cosgrove is a much more realistic option Love Somerset park. Great old ground. Havent been for a few years. Long overdue a trip.

First thought that popped into my head about this shanklands goal record is that Norwegian postman we had a look at years ago, ole albrigstein or something like that? I guess if he's cheap enough though hed be worth the gamble. Ole used to post on here as ole8 back in the day (2001?) He was a policeman from what I remember. Not much about him online although he does crop up on this random Stoke home page from about 20 years ago - homepage.eircom.net/~tubby/Soccer_Pages/Stoke/tubbywithjan.html

You’re right it’s fantastic as are a lot of the smaller clubs up there, the trouble with clubs like Ayr who have quite a large town but a average gate of about 1.5k is in Scotland you’re either rangers or Celtic..Ayr is only about 30 miles from Glasgow which makes it even worse... Small paddocks with very partisan crowds right next to the pitch make for a great atmosphere whatever the crowd numbers...the refs get dogs abuse as well....I do the junior games as well up there(non league to us) and when the mining villages play each other carnage follows it around with several mounted police and hundreds of police offices having to attend, it’s very bitter, I went to an auchilech v Cumnock game a few years ago and it was honestly like when Man City came to our place in 97 and there was trouble in every stand and outside.

Thing with Scotland is diouf could go there and get 15 goals a season quite easily. Interested to have some strikers names that gave come down from scotland and made a name for themselves here? That Anthony stokes was prolific up there, as was gary Hooper. Is cosgrove big, strong and fast? If he is none of the above then how is he better than we have? He's definitely big and strong

So was Garry Birtles when he was at Forest...may be worth a punt though. Yeah, and Peter Griffiths when we signed him from non-league, and look how he turned out........Oh, wait a min!!! 🤔 😁 Another bit of a non entity. Shit, we have had some very ordinary / poor players at this club.

Lou Macari and Steve Archibald too, but I guess in recent times, too often they have flattered to deceive as the quality of the respective leagues has grown further apart. I suppose Duncan Ferguson in slightly more recent times and Henrik Larsson at Man Yoo. Robert Fleck?!

Billy McKinlay played for Dundee United for 10 years, and MON had 4-5 yrs there - so in addition to MON's recent knowledge of Scottish football, that could be another small factor?

I think he also turned down the Dundee Utd job at one point?
There is no doubt where he thinks the value is. I think it's a better idea than trying to get a similar player from league 1 and being asked to pay ten million, like Peterborough are asking for their star striker

Dunno we used to spend 18m on shit, so Teflon would see it as step in the right direction.

Would be nice if we could drop on with a 20-25 goal a season striker. I can’t even remember the last one. 😂

Shankland is very well thought of , loads of potential , gamble but rather 3m for him than 10 on Vokes types if Im honest. Fear we might be too late on him , could have got him for nothing last summer.

What that get you in England striker wise? League two player? 33% of Sam Vokes.

It’s way too much for the level he’s playing at. but you are buying potential, it's a risk/gamble sometimes they pay off, sometimes they don't, a bit like Stein or Imbula and Wimmer and Berahino

I’m glad we are looking at places of value and both these guys scoring records are superb. It’s just if they can make the step up

I can see it now, twelve minutes into his debut, he has a shot off target and he’s written off on here. “Told you so.... Players from Scotland are wank... I predicted this...”

Shankland looks like one of those fooking annoying players who always seems to score past you and you hate the little shit! Get him in!

Say what you want about the standard, the goals never move and he certainly knows where the back of the net is. Confident with both feet and decent in the air, tap ins, long range efforts. If the price is right all seems fairly low risk to me.......

So you have to make sure the price is right. He’s playing at a league one or two standard. 3m is way too much. How many league one players sell for a million even?

Quite a few who are decent strikers, that's the price, Jack Marriot, Dwight Gayle, George Boyd, Russell Martin, Britt Assombalonga, Conor Washington, Lee Tomlin, Craig Mackail-Smith to name a few, and Peterboroughs Ivan Toney is being touted towards £10 million
