Brilliant win today, without arguably our two best midfielders.
So what should O’Neill do from here assuming he’s going for the 3? Clucas is almost undroppable after today, Woods made a real difference and Allen grabbed a goal.
It’s a good problem to have, mind.

Split in the vote on this poll shows how interesting this will be from now on .
Wish we had similar problems elsewhere!

Clucas, Etebo & Badou by a country mile. Until January at least

It’s about balance and performance and the way the new manager wants to play. He has options and that is great because it means he will change players around. I agree Etebo and NDiaye are probably our best individuals but there may be better combinations than both together. NDiaye could be gone in January. I don’t think there is a clear “best three” yet.

If we're playing a 4-3-3 then the most balanced midfield 3 would be Badou, Woods and Clucas.

Hard this one. Etebo and N'Diaye our best individual players, but neither are our best creative or recycling passers (like Woods potentially) and neither have a goal in them (like Clucas) - both being important with our striking threat being so weak. At home - N'Diaye, Woods, Clucas (and Etebo at LB) Away - N'Diaye, Etebo, Clucas (and BMI at LB). ... but then its going all "Nathanesque" and complicated.
Sometimes, there are just no clear cut winners! Whichever combo MON goes with, its certainly better than the diamond. If i was him, it would depend on who is likely to still be around, as well, come the end of January.

Must say McClean had a good game on Saturday, however any chance of Etebo playing left of a front 3?
I know he has played "on the left" but has he ever been in a front 3 or more a wide man in a 4231?

Woods Badou -----Clucas----- Ince Gregory McClean

For me the dropping of badou was the best decision and one we need to continue. He has been one of our best players BUT bringing him straight into the fold this season was a huge mistake . He didn’t want to play for us, went to Turkey last year, did everything to push a move this but then when it didn’t happen just walked straight into the team. For players in the squad who want to be here and train every week to earn a place that must have been a huge kick in the teeth and poor for team morale. Some must have thought what is the point. You have to earn the right to play regardless of your quality and especially after his past. For me the best 3 is Etebo clucas woods but you cannot drop Allen after the win.
