I was there, I'd say it was about 5ish. Hard to tell on the waste ground that was the Barnsley away end.

I was there and I haven't a clue how many we took, but I know it was plenty. Like sardines in a can we were.

Anyone go to to the Osdal Stadium when we played Bradford the season after the fire?
The Official coaches got to the stadium, the turnstiles were wide open and not manned, and a load of us walked in without paying.
Georgie Berry penalty and Tony Ford on the score sheet if my memory isn't fading.

Sardines in a can. Little room at sides as designed! 5000+ I have vivid memories as a 16 year old being carried in (free of charge) when the flood gates opened by the sheer pressure of bodies.

Georgie Berry penalty and Tony Ford on the score sheet if my memory isn't fading. Unless I'm going mad, we played them at Elland Road and lost 3-1. They scored from two very dubious penalties. Painter scored ours. Edit : You're thinking of the following season. Saunders (2) Ford and Berry scored in a 4-1 victory.

We went to the Barnsley match and seeing the crowds in front of us we figured we'd miss half the match if we queued with the other Stokies, so we went in with the Barnsley fans.
I've no idea about numbers, but I'm fairly sure they were still letting Stokies in on the 30 minute mark. The atmosphere in among the Barnsley fans was hostile enough for me to never make that kind of mistake again. Fuckin' miserable match.

They also had another forward that did the Beagrie back flip when he scored (which I think he did that night).

FACT No doubt there was a crush, outside the turnstiles i saw the police give the order to open the gates next to the terracing. There was traffic problems around Oakwell that night.Only a few weeks before Hillsborough and the same police force.Loads more than 3000.It was a few days after the 3-3,in those days a replay took place in the mid-week after the game.

My confident belief was that Currie should definitely be in the England squad. Puddled.

The best thing about David Currie is that he joined Forest and played alongside Brian Rice.

There was a crush as I was about 3 persons back from the turnstile getting crushed until someone opened the gate to the side, 8000? 5-6-7000 who knows but definitely more than 3000 FACT😉

Err....Don’t think so. There was loads of space down the sides in an end similar size to the Hamil end, 3000/4000 tops.

Lot more than 3000. Ur either a wind up merchant.... or ur memory is playing tricks on u. Im 53. And i was there. So il give u my opinion. The othr striker they had ( the bagflip guy) was name cooper....him n currie ripped us to bits.....i was amongst the 400/500 getting crushed up against the big metal double gates.... the 4/6 turnstiles couldnt cope......once you got down to the gates n turnstile area..... you were in a quadrangle with nowhere to go.... i was right next to the huge metal gates.... a policeman in brown leather gloves told us they were gonna open the gates..... so be ready to move sharpish...this was 3months before hillsboro.... thats a fact.... you dont forget things like that. Would i say 8000?.... i cant say yes or no..... was there room at the sides ?.... again.... i couldn't say.... it was a huge open end like the old stoke end..... but it was pay on gate... and there was way more than 3000....fact

I was there with my brother and a couple of lads who'd traveled with us. We were in the crush outside the away end turnstiles. The big double gates (doors) were either opened by the police or more likley by the hoard of fans that were stuck outside and were pushing like hell on the gates trying to get in. Either way, we got in for free, which is always a bonus.

Just checked photos of the away end at the Oakwell ground, it was similar to Vale and the Hamil Rd end, I'd say 4000 maximum. So there you have it, we took about 3000 as there was space at the sides, as I was there so I should know!!
