He's a good footballer but dreadful finisher. Should have buried that chance. The thing is he had so much time. There wasn't a defender anywhere near him. I think Baath would have buried it tbh.

A true Oatcake bi-polar thread. Gregory is everything we were told he would be, hard working, bustling player with a big heart but one who can lack a finish. I don’t think he was billed as one of our starting strikers but has been thrust into that role. I’ve not seen anything else this season that differs from that description. You get super efforts like the weekend and then some bad misses like tonight. I’d personally start him with Hogan as the two have shown some really good chemistry. This one is on Lindsay, not Gregory.

I could fuckin cry Fuller wasn’t the best finisher, certainly wasn’t prolific (7 goals in 76 games in his last 3 seasons) every non Stoke fan I know is baffled why he’s a cult hero here. But everyone knows what else he had in his game, Gregory is in a similar mould in terms of he doesn’t offer clinical finishing but can turn out displays that basically win the game. Like the weekend. He’s obviously not Ricardo, but I think he adds more than the sum of his drawbacks. Lindsay, I’ve got no objection to criticism. He’s struggling.

Think people are being abit harsh on Gregory. It’s a very good save for me, but he was reaching for it slightly. I think if he leaves it for Baath it’s a goal.

Gregory is a good foil for a proper striker.
We don't have that proper striker in the building.
The closest we have is Hogan but the other two have serious flaws in their games.

Given yesterday’s story on exits I’d guess as a free he will be on good money so situation being engineered to push him out of the door if possible with Powell who was given a name check by Percy
We now Know the way it works see fringe player Etebo and Badou .

Gregory and Powell are meant to be on big money.
But what has changed from 5 months ago when we signed them?
It paints the board in even worse of a light if these two signings now are an issue. Why sanction them?

Why sanction them? Presumably because Jones saw them as key signings - and because they were Bosmans, the overall package was manageable? And that's been the downfall since mid-Hughes. We've given Hughes, Rowett and Jones complete autonomy, and they've hand-picked some absolute shit.

It is beginning to seem, at least from the outside, that some of the biggest failings under Scholes has been to give managers too much freedom in choosing players. Not what many of us thought to be the case to be honest.

FM it looks like MON is being given a free hand to keep or release who he wants doesn’t it as every game goes by the new bomb squad becomes apparent? Some maybe he doesn’t rate footballing wise and some he may have been told he has to release if possible re financials? For fans it’s tough but I do sympathise with the manager as he can’t really say exactly which box players are in can he? Tough times and I guess we just have to suck it up and see where we are at the end of January. As always I’m sure some they wish to offload won’t happen!

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07v965dLittle soundbite of him on Radio Stoke news (about 1 min 50 secs in) He's definitely been dropped. No mention of illness being the reason for the exile.

Not what many of us thought to be the case to be honest. Not sure why you would draw that conclusion he has clearly stated signings are the result of a thorough and exhaustive process as chief executive he is responsible for that process he’s totally accountable whether the process is too. Strong or too weak it’s proven to be utterly without merit and he defends it to this day including most recently managerial recruitment which could have been more successfully managed by picking random names from the Rothmans football year book

Dropping Gregory is even more head scratching than the exclusion of Etebo.

I would happily see Scholes depart, but on the grounds of contracts, club visibility on a global scale and other factors as opposed to just transfers. The bloke clearly does not do anywhere near enough to justify even a quarter of his massive salary

None of our strikers are which somehow elevates his skills to a different level, but essentially he's another Andy Cooke.....

You can either afford it or you can't. We clearly can't and couldn't back then.

He gets in our best 18 though, doesn't he? Surely? He's one whose attitude is spot on and he did score 13 in a crap team as recently as last year. Does make you wonder if we're getting ready to try and sell him quickly while he retains some (any?) value. Can't see a queue for a 31yo on good money who would only want to stay up north though. It's just a mess. Although, as with Ndiaye and Etebo, dropping him from the 18 in the meantime does seem....at the very least odd. If, alternatively, MON doesn't think Gregory, Etebo and Badou are in our best 18, that's a bit concerning.

And if we go 2 up top I think he should start. But as a lone striker he's no more or less effective than Vokes......

If he could just add goals to his game he'd be the best forward at the club!!!
However, if MON has his own ideas and players in mind that'll be best for the team then it's a case of needs must!!!
