... Out before tomorrow's 4 nil win. Also available at our ground for Sheff Wed coach departures.
Includes:
An extended interview with Peter Thorne. Thorney is easily the most humble and self-critical ex pro we've spoken to. Very insightful. Good looking bugger as well - looks about 30. Unless those ladies of Knutsford really were staring at my bald bonce!
Rob Doolan looks back at Fantasy Football with Skinner & Baddiel.
Nostalgic takes on Brynjar Gunnarsson and our ace form in December 2015
Lots of other stuff.
2 quid.

Absolutely loved Thorne. Still to this day one of my favourite Stoke players I’ve seen

Oh Peter Thorne, Peter Peter Peter Thorne. Kin ace he was. Impossible to mark a lot of the time, very clever footballer.

Said it many times. My favourite player. Great header of the ball. Never scored many goals standing up. Always off balance but more often than not, hit the target. Brave as a lion in the box. Our last striker to score 30 goals in a season. Still remember the standing ovation he got when he scored a hat trick against us when playing for Cardiff.

Great interview with Thorney👍 It was. Very surprised at the end how he says he stepped away from football completely after he retired. Shame he never got the chance to play for us higher up the leagues. I reckon he would have done a decent job for us. And great to hear stoke was his number 1 club. Goaaaarrrrn Thorney

Fortunately for the leeches and snake oil salesmen, most footballers are thick as pig shit when it comes to such things.

Great issue btw! Bit taken aback by the funeral director's advert. Don't usually see one in a fanzine.

The rumour I'd heard was that he was a lot more keen on the move than Kav was yet it was always portrayed as the other way round. If wrong I stand corrected.

Just because that is what he says how do you know. You don't.... It was a thoroughly convincing explanation from the man himself. Not proof in court admittedly. But Keen and Kavanagh also said Thorne was desperate to stay when we interviewed them. The story of his sale... the Rudge angle also rings true according to many similar tales ex players have told us.

Absolutely loved Thorne. Still to this day one of my favourite Stoke players I’ve seen I carried a photo of peter Thorne in my wallet for some time. Does that make me a massive fucking loser? or Peter Thorne an even bigger winner? Only Thorne can judge me. I also graffitied a Jesus Saves sign at a church on wilmslow road in Manchester with “but Thorne scores the rebound” at least three times.

One of my favourite stoke players is Thorney. You knew if the ball came to him in that box there was a good chance he was banging it in, half the time already sliding across floor or with his back to goal but still managing to find the net. Favourite goal being the winner at Wembley against Bristol city, a typical Peter Thorne goal and a mental to follow it.

Bang on the touchline by the corner flag. Majestic floated cross from Bjarni, and there was Thorney sliding in like a guy on a water slide, smacks it in the onion bag, then cue 36000 stokies going absolutely mental. The best days when your hero wins a cup. Magic.

And as you say an absolutely lovely cross to Thorney who was never going to miss that one was he. Was only a young lad but remember it like yesterday. Always wish we had kept hold of Thorney he was one of my heroes growing up but it wasn't to be.

Ahhh Thorney. Singlehandedly responsible for an 8-0 drubbing at home to Liverpool when he hit the post early doors well before they scored. Could have been a totally different outcome if that had gone in and it was far easier to score!!
Only kidding of course, he was, still is, and always will be a Stoke legend and what a bloody nice chap he was too if you ever got the chance to speak to him! Loved surfing as well and was always at it in his spare time even though the club didn't approve in the slightest. Totally grounded and just loved his life.
Heartbreaking when he left for our arch rivals at the time.
