I never have. Whole family is from Stoke and as I said before mum made sure we were all born inStoke even though they moved to Telford before I was born.
Weirdly still class Stoke as home. Something special about the place for me

Born and raised in Stafford but whole family were Stoke supporters. Never lived in Stoke but went to the Staffs Uni campus there for 3 years.

Was brought up in Wolverhampton and my step-dad was a Stokie and took us to every game before we knew any better (so glad he did or I'd probably have been a doghead yam-yam. I live in Oxford now, my brother in London and all our kids are mad Stokies. Had season tickets on and off for years but never actually been to Stoke apart from the Vic and Bet365.
I got some numpty having a pop at us last year in the boothen end saying that we're not real fans because we're not local and to fuck off and watch Oxford (erm no ta). Given that we have a 5 hour round trip to get to home games and have done it for over 30 years, I'd say we've earned our stripes as honorary Stokies and probably more of fan than those that just hop on a bus and are home at 5.30 after another home defeat.

Sorry to hear you had a so called fan saying bullshit like that to you. You described him well...numpty indeed. I wouldn't have been so polite!

Born in deepest Somerset - brought up just South of Bristol and lived around here all my life (hence the Paul Randall profile). Dad from London and Mother from Bournemouth, so no Potteries connections there!!
Aged 9 and watching TV (when we won the League Cup and at an impressionable age) I thought "I like the colour of those shirts..." and have been a Stoke supporter ever since, through thin and thinner. To think I might have been Southampton, Sunderland, Lincoln City...Athletico Madrid even!!!
Funny thing about football loyalties though - if you're a proper fan, once you have a team there's no changing, even if you don't have a family history or geographic connection
And God knows that loyalty has been tested over the years!!!

Should I be the first to say I've never lived in Stoke or even Stoke-on-Trent, but I live in Newcastle-under-Lyme? Probably not. That'd be pedantic.

I was born in East London but spent all school holidays at grandparents in Whitchurch, Shropshire. From aged 6-7 went home and away when up there and now in Essex in my 60s with no living grandparents still go to some home games and away when can. Will always be a Potter.

Nah, you wouldn’t have been turned on by those clubs’ stripes - they look so crap with black shorts and red trimmed cuffs and collars. Our stripes stand out because the rest of the kit is white and, as such, we are unique. You should never regret the right choice.

Post by Deleted on Oct 18, 2019 0:25:28 GMT
Well it doesn't matter at all. I would expect that most Stokies that have never lived "in the Stoke conurbation" probably have ancestors that have.
It is a bit of a mind twister though, to understand why anyone else would choose us to support.

I was born in a flat above a shop in Kidsgrove on 24th December 1965 and delivered by my Grandad. Lived there for six months until me, my brother and parents emigrated to Australia in July 1966. Even though I never lived in Stoke or have any memory of my six months in England, I have heard so many stories it sometimes feels like I lived there. Lol. Dad is a Stoke City supporter and Mum goes for Manchester United. I followed Dad and have supported The Potters since I was kid.
Me and my Brother are planning a trip soon, will visit Stoke and go see them play.

Ha...started watching Stoke around the same time and I picked a striped shirt (black and white TV in those days) and my brother picked the other team that was playing which turned out to be Chelsea...what might have been I guess...iyt was ok for a while when younger.

Technically only lived there for the first five days of my life in the Haywood hospital. After that Knypersley, ‘Castle, Bath, Bristol, Kansas, Florida, California, Pennsylvania and now Missouri. Shit, that’s a lot of moving around. SCFC is the only constant in my life!

Never. Born Hertfordshire, now live Kent. Banksy was my childhood hero, started supporting Stoke aged six just after he joined in 1967.
