And so I pass on the baton of misery, euphoria , anger , delight, upset, love , pride and a whole lot more to my son Evan who amongst the peer pressure of glory hunting little twats wearing their Man City, Liverpool and Man Utd replicas who have never been to a game in their life and telling him how shit Stoke are has defended them with verbal and some times bag swinging determination. I'm sorry son but it's in your blood like mine and my Grandad who handed that baton to me albeit a golden baton at the time of the early 70's. Enjoy my boy xxxx

Nice one hope he has a great day and a win. I’ve taken my 7 year old grandson to about 5 games and unfortunately he has not seen them win. As we live 100 miles away this has again unfortunately got him to support Man City but I will keep trying u never know he may see them win at some point 😆. Here’s hoping for a win for you and your lad.

Good on yer, mate. Enjoy these years because they go by too fast! I hope we give Fulham a good hiding! Those glory hunters will fall by wayside when the teams they pick fall out fashion. Only Arsenal have never been relegated from the top division - it’s just a matter of time. Look at Leeds!

I hope you have better luck than me and my lad. He started going when we were in the Premier League and he still hasn't seen us bloody win!
I haven't counted but I reckon it's now knocking on for 15 games!
Edit. Just counted. 19 games in all. A full PL seasons worth of home games!

It's always a thing requiring a bit of courage and gumption for any kid. Usually they know it's a hiding for nothing . Right now its a brave thing to do.

It absolutely breaks my heart that I have turned down free tickets to take my little un to the match I started going stoke in the early 80s with my big brother, enjoying queueing to get in, having a pie and constantly being told by my brother to "just fuckin run" when it all kicked off.
I cant justify trying to entertain my poor little sod through 90 minutes of sitting freezing to then try and explain why they have had to sit through the game when it isnt very good, sad things she now asks " did stoke lose again" when I come in after the match

I conker Para. The most terrifying aspect of this post is that, in less than a couple of decades, those who are still using this board will be subjected not only to a load of bollox from his dad, but they will also have to put up with Ev giving it the big 'un. Now I suggest we all choose a user name for the young man. Here's my choice: EvoRaff. That should stick well. Nice one H. Enjoy the day and give our georgeous Ev a big hug from OS when the second goal goes in to clinch a fabulous victory. M.

I think that Grandfathers have a lot to answer for, particularly when "choosing" their Grandsons football club. At primary school we used to get "training" visits from Wolves stars and this resulted in a lot of my young contemporaries directing their footballing allegiance towards the south of the County.
My Grandad had other ideas and in October 1961 took me to my first match, watching Stoke City v Huddersfield at the Victoria ground. Stoke won 3-0 (scoring an impressive 3 goals in a match, which later in Stoke's history would come to be regarded as a considerable and rare achievement) and the match was memorable for both the size of the crowd, and the debut appearance of one Stanley Matthews on his return to the club.
I remember my Grandfather saying to me as Matthews worked his way down the wing: "You watch this man, as you'll never see the like of him again."

I wish I had a quid for every time, in the early seventies, for going into a secondary modern playground full of United and Liverpool supporters, 'giving it large' when we'd done well against them and, as a result, getting the shit kicked out of me ..wasn't easy following Stoke City around Warrington in my teens.
