And for those condemning Gascoigne it's equally sad really, there need to be consequences for his actions but he's not in control of himself and his being punished and feeling sorry for him are not mutually exclusive. Society encouraged his behaviour and in many ways contributed towards the mess we're seeing now. I don't think you can blame society for this type of unacceptable behaviour. Just the irresponsible, self-centred, brain-dead and unfortunately growing minority.

I just hope that you never do. What Gascoigne has done is absolutely out of order are the things he's done in the past. He needs to know what he has done is unacceptable. Neither you nor I know how his mental illness effects him or how he deals with it. We don't about how his alcoholism effects him. What I do know is these problems have been with him at least since he became well known. I hope for his sake that one day he will learn to deal with his illnesses, not only for him but for those who have been and maybe victims of his one day. What I do know is nobody reading this thread knows how his illnesses work with him. That includes those who have suffered alcoholism and mental illness as it effects us all differently. OK Mr 40v, If I say yes I do. I'm a recovering addict of 37 years clean. For the last 35 years I've run a number of drug and alcohol treatment services in the UK. Worked in prisons and secure units with people with serious mental health/substance misuse problems. Worked with the army and air force with personnel coming out of combat zones with PTSD/ alcohol and drug issues. involved with the Royal British Legion/Help for heros for many years and run an treatment unit and rehabilitation service for clients with alcohol problems in Guernsey for the last 26 years I might know what I'm talking about ? Just saying Over to you GD Then I'd of thought you would be more understanding.

But sadly I've met lots of 'gasgoines' over the years . Met him too once. He was sober and quite engaging too. However unless he has a real epiphany the only way this sad sorry tale is ever going to end is him dead in a bed somewhere lonely and choking on his own vomit or an accidental O/D. I hope it doesn't but sadly everything a see, hear and watch about him indicates that's where it will end GD

Ricky Hatton gave him a character reference..... sweet Jesus, I would love to read that.
“Gazza’s a proper lad. When we go out on the proper lash together he drinks like a fish, funny a fuck when he’s pissed that one. He inhales kebabs like they haven’t touched the sides.
Oh and when we grope women, it’s just a laff ... so don’t worry about it. We are just being LAAAAAADDDDSSS!!!!!
Oi Gazza, av that judges wig off... I need it for a plan, bring a blow up donkey and 24 cans of Oranjeboom. Anyway #lerrimoff”

If kissing on the lips is sexual assault then there would be thousands possibly millions going to court, fucking ludicrous, she clearly wants money, fame or both! Mickey the maestro is bang on. What do you think it is, if it isn't sexual assault then? Clearly it wasn't.

Am I the only one who is sick to the back teeth with everyone's misdemeanours labelled as mental health....
Gascoigne is a wife beating pisshead who thinks his role in life is to entertain us all. He's mixed with dickheads most of his adult life and frankly is a poor excuse of a kid who never became a man.
Do I feel sympathy ? Do I feel sorry for the bloke ? Answer on a postcode addressed to "couldna give a fuck" I'll reserve my sympathy to someone who deserves it. That wont be " Gazza" today and probably not tomorrow either

Is there literally no English law that covers kissing a stranger on the lips without their consent then? That's just fine as long as there's no "sexual" intent?

But he was cleared of that as well (that was the "assault by beating" charge). If there's a lesser assault charge I don't know why they wouldn't have gone for that

Yeah, and "assault by beating" is a category of common assault that includes "violence" - in this case the unsolicited kiss. And they cleared him of that, which is why I'm thinking so it's fine to just kiss strangers on the lips unexpectedly. Dunno I'm a total layman, just trying to work it out.

I think what it means is he was lucky they charged him with sexual assault as well in some ways. That offence is triable in front of a jury and therefore so was the common assault. The jury clearly fell for the 'Gazza' cheeky chappie act. If they'd charged him simply with common assault it would have been heard by the Magistrates who you would hope would have been far less likely to be 'star struck' and would have convicted him. He's clearly committed a common assault but got away with it, partly because of who he is/was and partly because of the virtue signalling CPS.

Whereas I can see, just, why he might not be convicted of sexual assault, I can not for the life of me see how he hasn't been convicted of battery.

I completely agree with you. Whilst I acknowledge that he is a sick man and in desperate need of help & support, I find it outrageous that a woman should have to tolerate such an intrusive and disgusting attack and then suffer a further attack for actually standing up for her rights and saying No this is not acceptable behaviour. It is unfortunately indicative of today's society that it's seen as 'comedy gold' 'not sexual assault'. Men thinking that they can do what they want, when they want and to any woman they want. Equality!
