For anyone interested, below is how I will now be spending next Monday afternoon . I'm already a bit nervous about it (cr*****g myself actually ) but hopefully Tom and I will get an easier ride than some of the people who've been summoned to appear before a Select Committee in recent years. It's easier when you aren't the decision-taker ( I hope ! ) I don't know if it will be on the Parliamentary TV Channel. These hearings sometimes are. Newcastle-u-Lyme MP Paul Farrelly is one of the members. House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee DCMS Committee announces witnesses in Administration of Football Clubs inquiry The inquiry into the administration of football clubs will hold its first evidence session on Monday 21 October 2019. The DCMS Committee set up the inquiry following the decision by the English Football League (EFL) to expel Bury football club. The Committee will hear directly from representatives of supporters’ organisation ‘Forever Bury’ about the impact the decision has had on the community. The evidence session is also expected to consider the effectiveness of current regulation, the owners’ and directors’ test, and what needs to be done to strengthen football governance. Giving evidence from 14.30: Malcolm Clarke, Chair, Football Supporters’ Association; Tom Greatrex, Vice-Chair, Football Supporters’ Association; Barry Roth, Former Director of Forever Bury; Matthew Dunham, Insolvency Advisor to Forever Bury. They will be followed by: Debbie Jevans CBE, Executive Chair, English Football League; Greg Clarke, Chairman, The Football Association; Richard Masters, Interim Chief Executive, Premier League. Committee membership Damian Collins MP (Chair) (Conservative, Folkestone and Hythe); Philip Davies (Conservative, Shipley); Clive Efford MP (Labour, Eltham); Julie Elliott MP (Labour, Sunderland Central); Paul Farrelly MP (Labour, Newcastle-under-Lyme); Julian Knight MP (Conservative, Solihull); Ian C. Lucas MP (Labour, Wrexham); Brendan O’Hara MP (Scottish National Party, Argyll and Bute); Jo Stevens MP (Labour, Cardiff Central); Giles Watling MP (Conservative, Clacton.) As he's the same age as me then it will be 73-78. My memory was he was a nerdy 'swot' whereas I was always in trouble. However, I wouldn't recommend you mention my observation about him when you're seated in front of them all GD

Malcolm just be yourself and you'll be fine. Remember you have every football fan in the country on your side. The only people who should be worried about the enquiry will those representing the EFL. The fans and yourselves couldn't do any more than they/you did.
On the whole I would expect the MPs to be on the side of us fans and may be fans of football clubs themselves.

Is this going to focus on having better regulation in place about who is allowed to own a football club?
Some clubs in this country have done very well during the premier league era by becoming vehicles for laundering the ill gotten gains of foreign criminals, though many clubs have crashed and burned.

The saddest part of this is that the Bury fans might have to re-jig their speeches depending on what happens tomorrow, where it is expected they will be wound up after the last rumoured potential buyer pulled out.

Williams was the Head then, affectionately known as Pecker or, less affectionately, the Beak because of his large hooked nose. Our John Farmer was also there during my tenure but a bit older than me.

Caned me for smoking (more than once) , skiving school, leaving at lunch time without permission (a fair few times , after all how can you go get ciggies ?) and telling chazzer watts (a teacher) to fuck off . Almost got expelled for that. Happiest days of my life allegedly. GD

You're a top bloke Malcolm, no justice in the world if you see any negativity toward your efforts. That's very kind of you. Thank you. But it's only right to point out we have the support of a lot of dedicated and highly competent colleagues in the FSA - both staff and volunteers. For example, I think the quality of the written evidence we have submitted in advance of Monday's hearing ( most of which I didn't write) is top notch. If anyone would like a copy, PM me your email addy.

I expect the committee will be very surprised by your "Twickenham" voice and accent, Malcolm! You must make it very clear to them that, despite appearances, you are representing the fans of the round ball game and not the egg shaped one! Seriously, as others have said on the thread, you'll be a great witness and I'm sure you'll impress the committee. Good luck and I'm sure that once you get started you will enjoy the experience.

You should take Nello, He'd tie them in knots. Just don't let him loose near the food. It won't surprise you to know he is actually mates with Paul Farrelly, who is his MP. Food ? I suspect we should be so lucky ! I suspect a glass of water on the table will be as good as it gets.

At least with you there Malcolm, they will see that there are decent people representing football supporters. That's kind of you. I think it's the representation part which makes it a bit daunting. I don't mind making a fool of myself ( happens often enough anyway ) but I don't want to let the fans we represent down. The format is more challenging than, say, media interviews, where I always get myself in the zone of just not thinking about how many people might be listening or watching, and think of it as a chat in the pub. But the u-shaped table of MPs who are there to interrogate you, and in some cases might like to show how clever they are, is a different kettle of fish. That said, as bloody56 said earlier in the thread, I think it is the football authorities who follow us who are likely to have the much harder time. And at least we haven't got indefensible bonuses to defend, like the Thomas Cook guys who were before a select committee yesterday
