I believe that the England squad are not good enough to win when it really matters. No matter who we play in the squad. Much as I would love to win a World Cup, or to a lesser extent the European tournament, we are not good enough! I've seen nothing in recent competitions to change my mind. Sorry, but that's my honest opinion. I feel we are like a mid table premier league team. Very unlikely to win a cup, but it’s not impossible with football. Unfortunately, we are always billed as a clear favourite and our performances are then scrutinised as being that of an underachieving Man Utd vs that of a overachieving Wolves. In reality the favourites billing is borne of very little. England have never been a global football superpower.

Does anyone apart from the English media ever even bill us as favourites anyway? Even then, they only really do that when a tournament is about to start after spending the previous couple of years telling everyone how medicore we are.
It's nothing more than tabloids hyping things up to sell more "copy" over the weeks that a tournament is held.
