He was the manager. How much more of a massive reason do you need to be? He is not the massive reason. You blame Hughes massively whereas I blame Coates. I blame them both, they are both massive reasons. We may as well leave it there though as it's pretty obvious we don't agree

Hughes was the start of the rot. To many big egos and not enough man management to put them in their place. The feckers did what they wanted and Hughes couldn't handle them. We're paying for it now. start of the rot?....how old are you? ......you must be under 20 most of my Stoke supporting career has been rot....and the Mark Hughes era doesn't come anywhere near

Is he bollocks a massive reason. Coates was to blame for Hughes, he hired him. Hughes did a great job in the middle part of his time in charge but when he stopped delivering what did Coates say? I don't know what all the fuss is about. Coates let everyone down where Hughes is concerned. don't try and tell me that Hughes isn't to blame for creating the mess we are in. Hughes isn't to blame for creating the mess we are in.

No disrespect mate, but I conna be arsed going through it all again. If you believe that a manager isn't to blame for a football club that employs him going tits up like we did then fair enough, we are never going to agree.

Hughes & Coates are both to blame in equal measures in my eyes for the failure of our club.

Our rot can’t be laid at the door of transient managers. It’s down to Coates. His mistake was to place trust in cronies over experts. All organisation have power battles over decision rights. If he’d had the right staff, Hughes wouldn’t have won the decisions on transfers. Maybe Hughes wouldn’t have even seen a need to fight for those decisions.

Because for a while he had us playing the best football I’ve ever seen at Stoke and brought in some extremely talented players. It ended badly, but LMH is not the reason for our current predicament, pretty much every big decision by the board since his sacking has been catastrophic. He's a massive reason why we are where we are, and that minuscule spell of great football wasnt worth the shit we've had to endure since because of his inability to manage. Yes it was

Yes it was Hughes let players get a away murder. He left and the rest couldn't tame them. Hughes left a big load of dogs shit for the next managers to deal with. And none of them did,Coates is just as culpable for letting it happen.

It's quite a coup for Reading.

I actually enjoyed the football for a couple of years with stokealona and all that you can never take away.
He will never be remembered as a great Stoke manager because he started the rot in the end,
But hes a good manager and a low budget,

Yeah so therefore I’d rather never have seen us put six past Liverpool and wish we’d just had 7 straight season of TP 12/13 That was before Hughes lost the plot and started to buy the likes of Berahino and Imbula..not sure if he ever bothered with defensive or set-piece training but anyway.. His latter transfer dealings and man management, along with Coates inability/refusal to see the problem have proven to be verging on catastrophic. TP thrashed Bolton in a hugely memorable FA Cup semi but he was not a man for all seasons and required replacing. Hughes' proclivities have left the club in a total mess and we are struggling to recover. That does not equate with good management.

Make no mistake, Hughes is a good manager who just lost his touch.
When we battered MCFC at home, MUFC / Arsenal / Chelsea (Assaidi) / Liverpool (6-1) / etc - I loved every minute of it. And in spite of what we’ve become, it was magic.
I’ve got a mate who’s a Pompey fan, and they widely regard Redknapp’s dealings the reason they’re down where they are now - but would my mate swap the FAC win for anything? Not a chance.
Sometimes doing what works at the time is the right thing to do, and then gamble. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Good luck Hughes, thanks for the good times

I tend to look beyond Hughes time at Stoke & his managerial career as a whole in its entirety. For all the plaudits he gets as a great player his managerial record is certainly not as glowing with no honours to show for his many years at the helm. Ask Fulham, QPR & Southampton fans what they think of him & doubt they'll be many who will hold him in a high regard. Think he's fudged his way through his managerial career & convinced he thinks he's better than he really is.

The common denominator for all these failures is the chief executive and the board.
