I'm really struggling understand that formation. The only thing I can come up with is that we're looking to sit deep and ping the ball forward to the three upfront - otherwise I just can't see the connection between the midfield and the forwards. I'm assuming its a one off to deal with the opposition - looks a bit leftfield for Jones...

I wouldn't let Jordan Cousins within 17 trillion feet of any Stoke City starting XI However, I don't mind the look of that team. Nice to see Powell on the bench, and MacJannet a good opportunity for him if he manages to get a few potential minutes. Well with two in the middle and one is the fairly immobile Woods you need someone whose going to be covering a lot of ground. Not convinced by Cousins passing but he will put the miles in Wing backs to cross early. So basically have Woods as the deep lying playmaker, getting balls into the wings for crosses, find the strikers, Cousins as a ball winner I guess, hassle opposition and keep his passing to a minimum because Lord knows it's not very good. Mind you, saying that, regardless of it being Crawley, I hope he has a good showing and shows improvement.

That front 3 looks very narrow - I could understand if we were to play say Ince or Jimmy or even Gregory wide as they will at least create a wide option and overlaps for the wing-backs to put balls in for Vokes and the other wide forward, who you would assume would tuck inside when the balls on the opoosite flank.
On the subject of width - the 2 wing-backs are not wing-backs, neither Smith or Ward are the types to get forward and create that width or deliver balls, yet we will be relying on them as the link going forward as neither Woods or Cousins have shown they can get it forward effectively or compete toe-to-toe with other midfields (no-real ball-winner in there). In fact playing just that pair in midfield could be suicide as a more dynamic 2 or a 3 will boss them, so I could see them sitting ever deeper to try and stop space between themselves and the back 3, which doesnt have a lot of pace and could be hurt by anyone whos half pacy running at them. This could lead to the front 3 being isolated, particularly if it looks as narrow as it does on paper, and it gives the opposition full backs opportunities to push up and pin us back with no real outlet to relieve pressure. Im worried.

I literally have no idea how that formation is going to work. Three strikers none of which are suited to a deeper role. Very strange

Would seem to make more sense to have Duffy behind a front 2?

Ah! Pick 'n'mix again. Poor Nath. Plot lost a long time ago or genius in waiting? Having witnessed the 'turning point' at Brentford I have now reached the conclusion fully that Tony may aswell come back as I have said on many occasions. At least we'd be an organised rabble with a tactic in mind. The only good thing I can see from this evening from a spectator point of view ( I applaud all of you travellers/sufferers) is that you wont be watching Jack kick the ball out aimlessly but generally accurately to the opposition at every opportunity Anyways, as always, wish to be proved wrong. Waiting for genius to emerge from the caterpillar of doom. GOARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRN STOKE!!

Vokes off for Powell or duffy, Cousins off for Sorenson, and despite being very bizarre, something i don't mind seeing (as everything has has failed)

How the fuck is a cup game pick and mix, tinkerman Jones
Do you want to run the players into the ground ready for a crunch game at the bet365 this Friday?
He has to rest the players, we're playing Friday, this is the correct decision.
You've asked for a settled side. The team will likely be the same on Friday as it was on Saturday barring any injuries, a.k.a a settled side.
Now get behind the team instead of lambasting them and Jones at every opportunity you bunch of mard-arses!

Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow! 😎 Has he been watching too much Strictly? We should be told🤔
