40 years of gradual decline and people blame immigrants. To be fair, up until they started dumping all these immigrants into my area the streets were clean. Now they resemble a rubbish dump with foreigners just fly tipping all manner of shit all over the place. It got so bad not long back that we even had visits from the council and numerous letters pushed through the door warning us of fines for fly-tipping, yet when the council were asked why they were only targeting the English speakers rather than going after the actual culprits people were accused of racism. So yeah, there's that... To be fair all my life its been a shit hole even before freedom of movement and ridiculous wars forcing people from their homes. People couldn't breath in the city up until the clean air act came in.And after that the city looked liked a bombsite all over the place and I also remember fly tipping and dumping rubbish anywhere you could was the norm.

A couple of years ago on here there was a discussion (I think it was a slow day on a massive transfer thread), where people were discussing various languages they were learning, some for work, some just for fun, and there was a tremendous amount of puzzlement by many posters as to why anyone should bother to do that. It was effectively a belief that education was some kind of pointless exercise. This is the reason pay is low in the Potteries and also why there are generally only menial jobs to be had. When it was the city of steel, coal and pots, education was largely irrelevant for the bulk of the people, as there were many jobs which were either unskilled or semi-skilled and the skilled jobs could be learnt with no formal education as they were largely manual in nature. Unfortunately, the world has left the city behind, but the people have largely stayed in the past with little respect for education and yet a massive chip on the shoulders about the state of the city. This attitude that it's a bit shit, but it's mine and I'll never leave ensures that that's how it will aways be. Just carry on blaming immigrants, lack of investment and government lack of interest, don't whatever you do, make any attempt to make the place better by being better, more educated, tolerant well-rounded citizens.

I drove down to Kidsgrove last night to help my lads pool team out.First time Ive been there for a number of years (it hasn't changed one bit) anyway we went to the Canal Tavern and by the bar there was a bloke with tattoos all over his face (no problem)and arms but the issue was his tattoos were all white pride, white power, and he had nazi insignia patches on his top and the obligatory stoomtrooper boots.
My question is would you serve the bloke if he came into your pub or establishment?I ask this because it seemed to be accepted.Whereas where I live there is absolutely no way he would be served,

I think the only feedback the BBC got from their local setup was pensioners and students complaining about transport infrastructure...

Listening to MoneyBox live from the Potteries Centre earlier & they were talking about Stoke being £5k below the national average on wages! 14k+ jobs lost in the steel&coal industry’s alone in the 80’s.
