Well 95 in a 38 game season, but yes that would be a dramatic decline in the club's fortunes and sort of puts things in perspective regarding Hughes.
Of course it's possible Nathan will sort things out and that won't happen.
I think it shows in trying to solve the problem we have just made things worse... our attack got us relegated in the end (we just couldn’t score for toffee) not our defence and now we can still neither attack nor defend. It’s quite baffling how they have managed to consistently make us worse. And people wonder why everyone is sick of it now. The owners of a football club cannot guarantee success, currently in the PL we have Chelsea and Man. U. potentially in danger of missing a top 4 finish, who could have imagined that?
The owners of Stoke City got us promoted and kept us in the PL for ten years, with some difficulty, and there were always going to be relatively disappointing seasons.
The owners aided by some fans decided disappointing seasons should not be on the agenda and removed the two managers who had been largely instrumental in achieving the success.
The men the owners recruited to replace them were not of the same calibre in my opinion, hence our current problems.
What all this shows is not that the owners are inept but that in their desire for continued success their hearts ruled their heads.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-pejic-nathan-jones-3314722Mike Pejic's interpretation of Coates comments is that Jones has got till the next international break to turn results around. Mike then goes on to compare Jones record with other managers since Hughes. I can understand that in a way, managers should be judged on their records, but I think you also have to take due account of the circumstances. In Lambert's case, the position was quite clear; his remit was "keep us in the Prem.". He went about that task by playing more defensive football and he failed. So the club had to make a decision to either stick with Lambert or try another manager. They clearly decided that Lambert was a "third choice" in the first place and the cry from a lot of fans was let's go with a young up and coming manager. Right or wrong, the club chose Rowett, probably on the basis on some success and a lot of knowledge of the Championship. My guess is he had a good interview and convinced the Board he had the wherewithal to get Stoke back into the Prem. Rowett's remit was quite clear, "You can have whatever you want, just get us back into the Prem.". Rowett went about the task spending a lot of money, resigning some players on new contracts and removing some dead-legs, Berahino being the notable exception. Rowett started badly, reverted to dour defending, started blaming the players, then the fans. By the half-way point of the season there was little chance of promotion unless the team started playing like a top team and getting 2 points a game, but the results actually got worse over Christmas and Rowett got the sack. The club IMO now realises they are in deep trouble with FFPR and need to start drawing in their horns and making large economies. So a change in policy was necessary; a complete rebuild of the club on a shoe string budget. Clearly that is a long term objective. They decided that Jones, as the best young manager around with a successful record was the one to go with. Having made that decision the Board are clearly of a mind to let things take their course and give Jones every chance to rebuild the side. Jones tried last season with what he had and failed. He has now got a dozen new players and as yet after 6 matches he has failed to find a successful combination. He has my sympathy because I think he has been badly let down by some of the players, the injury to Powell, hitting woodwork instead of the net, etc. He has 6 more matches to demonstrate he can succeed or I fear his tenure is at an end and we start yet again with someone else.

They are a bit inept given that the calibre of the replacements was not correct although I agree they have gone about it with their hearts in the right place. I just don't get any comfort from our owners going on the radio saying "we still don't know what went wrong last year". If you can't identify what has gone wrong and address it then that's a problem.

In a thread where obvious revisionism to suit whichever agenda rules, I think that's a 1/2 decent interpretation of the tea leaves.
Albeit, he didn't use "disastrous" to describe Lambert's appointment and "total & absolute wanker" to portray SB.

I want him to play the team he feels has the greatest chance of winning. I expect him to use the information gained from practice, medical staff, scouting, etc. I do not want him to play people, simply because they are popular or unpoular with fans, or based on reputation. Oh dear. Surely you have an opinion? Of course I have an opinion. However, I am not so adamant that my opinion is the right opinion. I certainly am not that stupid that I am going to start claiming I know better than a highly paid professional who is better qualified, experienced and has an exponentially larger amount of information available to him than I do. For the record, there is a separate thread on team selection.

And you’ve be complaining for the past 8 years. Stoke is what it is, no matter how much you complain or insult fellow supporters for their views, it’s not going to change - certainly not through being a keyboard warrior! If you want to bring about change so much, why not do something useful, like raise a consortium to buy out the current owners, instead of simply moaning about everything the club does? And you harangue me for my opinion calling me an attention seeker for having one. Jeez mate this is a message board get a life. I have one, that is why I've only made 4,000 posts compared to your 12,000. As for haranguing you, I can't recall ever having OOPS! I've probably only responded to one of your 12,000 posts, but hey! If the shoe fits, feel free to wear it.
