Planning a trip down to the capital later this month, only staying one night and back next day, been looking online for tickets, what a nightmare the website is, I'm probably going to just go to the station.
What sort of a price would I be looking at for an open return?? Stoke to London Euston...
I'd rather not be tied to a set train as if I miss the train, I'm going to have to pay twice.
Also what sort of costs am I looking at for tube travel etc??
A little bit daunted as not been down to London since about 1980.
The negative headlines don't really help either..

My daughter gets the London North Western one up, and can get it for about £8 if you plan it right, will take an hour or so longer but far cheaper than Virgin if you've got the time.
Depends on the tube zone, £3-£7 a day? you can use contactless now as you go through the barriers, no need to buy a ticket.

The London North Western one is fine if you don't mind the longer journey time. You can also get it from Alsager or Kidsgrove if that's easier.

Yeah I have used them to come to Stone rather than Stafford. First class is only about another tenner each way nothing special but you do get a plug to charge your phone and free wifi and generally is less crowded.

You can use your bank debit contactless card to pay for the tube. Touch the yellow circles on the barriers on the way in and out. TFL will charge you £5:60p per day but never more than £7. Try looking at return train travel to Southend, this changes at Euston and is very often £44, naturally don’t bother going to Southend! I use national express to go to London, only one stop on the M6 toll for a toilet break and way cheaper than the train.

This is the way I go usually and the extra time never really bothers me, just stick a film on or something, I 'll be doing it this month at some point as the first part of a 5hr stint to Margate :/

If you miss the train and get the next one with the same company you can usually blag it.

Get the virgin (in my opinion). More expensive, but loads more comfy and an hour quicker. Worth paying the extra...

Thanks but ive had a look on the website and its £28 no matter how far in advance. I always go to their own website rather than the trainline. There used to then be an option to only show their trains and those would be the cheap ones. It never had to be that far in advance when I've done it. Virgin tickets can usually be had for around £20 if you're more than a couple of weeks in advance.

You have to go into the 'advanced search options' and select 'our trains only'. Loads of £8 tickets showing
