Why the fuck should it take 18 months for NJ to produce a competitive team? If that's the case, he's a shit manager. I think that's one of the standout things for me. I can understand it taking 18 months to get everything perfect if it's such a complex system and you're changing the whole ethos but this squad (however shit we say they are after their performances) should not be struggling this badly. The manager should still be getting results whilst he waits for the plan to fall into place, not just waiting until the penny finally drops with everyone. It should be a work in progress but Jones is changing things week after which makes a mockery of the whole 'plan' anyway and has also made the short term unbearably bad. And even that "short term" has turned into over half a season of shite. There's a way to implement your plans and this just isn't it. We don't see what goes on at training but if the players can't grasp what it is he's trying to do, he needs to find a Plan B that will get results and stick with it for now and not fanny about with half the squad game after game. If he can't get his masterplan to work then the next step should be getting results with the best team and system available to him. With this squad, that's not much to ask.

I would have LMH as best manager after Waddo. You do realise he is why we are where we are now don't you? You do realise that Hughes is not to blame for PFL, Rowett and Jones all being shit managers don't you?

He is to blame for them not having a solid base to work from though, like the solid base left to him by tp. The base he thrived on and flogged to death until it grew old & decrepid. Then we saw the real mark hughes. In the meantime he spent vast sums of money on transfers that we "would really appreciate for years to come", yeah, thanks for them, mark. Tp left scfc a legacy, mark hughes took scfc's legs

Mark hughes is also to blame for stoke fans having no patience with new managers because the team 'under him' was shit for so long.

PFL inherited Mark's dream team Rowett was dismissed to early imo for not quick fixing something that was not a quick fix NJ 6 games with half a new squad

Maybe if mark had bought some players that actually had the potential to be stoke nailed on first teamers for a period of time (like the ones he inherited) we wouldn't have needed 10 this summer. Maybe, just maybe we wouldn't have lost our identity. Out of all that money he spent, where are the 'furniture' of the team? The Walter's, the Whelan's, the fullers, the crouch's, the huths' etc? 2nd best manager? 2nd best fraud more like

Obviously going to say this and not 'he's shit' in the media, but poor mans Tom Edwards, Tommy Smith has his say in this piece
This "public support" for the manager by Tommy Smith is just the latest in an ever increasing line of players supporting the "manager at the time" that have been wheeled out by the club over the past couple of years as our decline has gathered pace seemingly unabated. Despite the change in managers and players it would appear that the only thing that has really changed is the fact that we have somehow managed to get even worse. I wonder which player is next in line, probably straight after the Bristol game, to step up and give Nathan the full support of the players ?

I beg to differ Tommy, your colleagues body language in the last game said it all. Tools down.
Don’t patronise us Tommy.

Don't want him to return and each to there own but cannot understand the hate TP gets on this board. Promotion to the Prem,5 seasons in the Prem,FA Cup final,European football, giving the top teams a bloody nose now and again and 100% commitment from the majority of players, week in,week out.I'd kill for a touch of that nowadays.Oh,and not forgetting his charity work for our area. The football,I agree wasn't free flowing but it was a special time to be a Stokie. After Tony Waddington,on a par with Lou as the best Stoke managers. I would have LMH as best manager after Waddo. I would rate him with another manager who relegated us from the top division - George Eastham.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, I don't call a hand full of games after signing half a new squad "time to rectify that". Quite the opposite infact, it's ridiculous. Why judge a man on last season with somebody else's players... widely to believed to be an unbalanced squad when we have half a new squad this season? 10 new players to bed in, (ten), it might take 10 games, it might take 12. But let's be honest, them changes needed making. The chances are also that if any other manager had made them then the they would also need time to bed in, that's just how it is, football teams arnt a microwave meal they are a process of preparation. Most new managers at any club has to work with the previous managers players, or the bulk of them, most don’t have the luxury of bringing in 11 new players of their own, it’s just an excuse. Plus last seasons squad was one of the most expensively assembled in the league, he should have had us sniffing the top 6 with those players. Mitigating circumstances aside, he should still have done better last season and This season we’ve actually regressed! Imbula, Berahino, Wimmer, Badou, Bauer, Afobe would make this about THE most expensive squad in the championship. Do you really blame NJ for not being able to get them to perform? C'mon, no one could have made that clump of misfits into a cohesive team.

Rowett had spent 10s of millions on top of having those players. The squad jones inherited last season may not have been his but if he was a decent enough manager he should have been able to muster more than a couple of wins with it.

Appointing jones was a terrible mistake, he’s obviously not qualified and he’s now also lumbered us with 11 new players who don’t look up to much, the club need to act swiftly now before any more damage is done, appoint a manager who can guide us out of this mess and reboot next season.

I don't think it is our style to just sack the manager unless there is someone else lined up. I'm sure we are putting out feelers, maybe a positive response from a moyes or hughton would prompt them to take action? Really really hope so. I can't believe Jones will still be in charge for the next game. Surely not Looking forward to this fiver, do you want to transfer it now? You'd better pm your paypal email address. Unbelievably looks like he'll be in charge the next game

At the end of the day we’re not a charity and shouldn’t be carrying passengers, unfortunately we’ve become a basket case for players who think they’re better than they are and players that basically nobody else wants, well not at the costs we’re paying them.
What annoys me more is that there’s people at the club (non playing) who’re being paid a fortune to basically run this club into the ground with no repercussions whatsoever, we know who they are.
For this reason there’s not a chance in hell they’ll get a single penny off me until this disease is ridden from the club.

We did the right thing employing a young ambitious manager. It doesn’t look like it’s going to work out. You can sack the manager but the root of the problem will still remain. Unfortunately nobody can put their finger on what it actually is.

This isn't to defend him, but people keep saying its the most expensively assembled squad etc etc but that doesn't mean its a good squad does it, isn't Imbula our biggest ever transfer, again not a defence its just a nonsense thing to say if the money was spent on crap or players that don't fit well together.

This really shouldn't be that difficult to be honest. We have a good squad, we have good players and don't you tell me the manager haven't got any backing from the board. Play a system that fits our better players, pick a starting 11 able to compete, install some winning mentality. Not start in the other end, choose a system despite not having the players for it, pick the players you like the faces of, hope for the best. With the players we have at Stoke right now I actually think it's quite an achievement to do so badly. And could we please stop with this bullshit conspiracy theory about what's wrong with our club. This is about going out there doing the basics, no theories or excuses to why the results don't go our way. GO ON STOKE!

Unfortunately nobody can put their finger on what it actually is. "We did the right thing employing a young ambitious manager. " Not when he had zero experience of the league (or managing in a league of this standard at least), or of managing a situaton that reflected our challenge at hand we didn't. And also when that manager had relied on other backroom staff to get his success, who weren't joining him. It was a stupid decision. Never say never in football, but we'd have been very very lucky if it had worked. Granted there are deeper problems too. However, having an incompetent manager is not helping. I just believe that despite the backroom nepostism and dysfunction, that there is still a manager that is capable of turning us into a team that are not bottom 3. Rowett won more than he lost even. We then live to fight another day. With Peter taking up the reigns more again, and Cartwright going, we can at least hope that the backroom picture is starting to be addressed.
