If he took over at Wednesday and they finished 8th, 10th - his (good) reputation would get a little dent. If he took over at Stoke and got them to 16th - his reputation would take a further lift. If he got us to the top half of the table he would have the keys to the city Absolutely! - far more to gain that lose for him i reckon, whereas at Weds think they're probably expecting at least play offs now, especially after a couple of notable signings. Unlike with Jones, we actually have tangible proof he is good - his record is excellent in the Champs - surpassed by probably noone. So, i think that would make us all far more comfortable with affording patience.

Interesting that John Cross was the one who broke the news he'd turned down Wednesday - and had the "inside story" on his Brighton dismissal. Could mean there is definitely something in this one if there is a relationship between them www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/steve-bruce-already-facing-newcastle-18297021Ex-Brighton boss Hughton is the odds-on favourite with the bookies to take over from Bruce.
But Mirror Sport can reveal Hughton has already turned down an approach and is not in the running, believing it was not the right job or the right time.
Hughton has gained an outstanding reputation of getting clubs promoted into the Premier League and then being a first class manager having worked wonders at Brighton and Newcastle.
There will be no shortage of offers after his departure from Brighton in the summer and he has admitted he wants a return to management but it will not be with Wednesday.

A couple of questions about Chris Hughton spring to mind. Would his preferred formation work with our players? A quick look says he has been a 4-4-1-1 merchant (March's wet dream! 😁)and played 4-1-4-1 and 4-3-3 at other times. What would a Chris Hughton line up be, with our lot?
Also, what's his transfer record like? Seem to remember him signing decent players for Brighton?

I'd agree in the premier league he was a safety first manager, and you can't blame him for that as it was their first 2 seasons in the top flight so needed to consolidate. His record in the championship is much different, look at his record with Newcastle that was hardly safety first. He's a wise horses for courses manager, something that's been desperately needed here for a long time.

It would be a start! 😁 Getting that solidity in midfield and defence is an absolute must seeing as we’ve been just like a bloody colander for twenty odd games. It’s been a joke. Any team turns the tap up slightly and they’ve been able to pour through us and score almost to order.

He's a perfect fit for us and I've always thought he'd end up managing here eventually but I was hoping it wouldn't be in these circumstances.

It would be a coup if we could get him in our current predicament. If we get any encouragement from him then need to act straight away.

Coates doesn’t use words like “straight away”. He prefers words like “fuss” and “process” and “August”.

Just a thought. Jones and Hughton have worked together in the past. I wonder if Hughton could be brought in above Jones. Would certainly save money on paying up another stack of contracts

He either joins as a manager or doesn't join at all.

We'll see though. Need a Percy for this one.
