Ok , bugger . These first 5 games haven't gone well at all .
3 poor , sorry terribly poor performances . But 2 reasonably good performances . Two where we should have picked up more points , all be it for the woodwork , and individual errors like Jack Butland having a crisis of conciousn .
How about drawing a line under the first 5 games . Season starts right now . Tomorrow morning , players in for training , including those frozen out . The bomb squad who we are still paying each week . Well let's get them back , get them all fit and earning there money.
We've got some terrific players , it's just a matter of deploying them correctly . We have the makings of a decent team I'm sure of it . We're just devoid of confidence . And maybe some luck .
I really want Jones to make this work , i still think he could , of course he may have to swallow his pride and accept that we need to play to our players strengths . Maybe a 4-4-2 or a 4-1-3-2 .
Yes there's not much to cheer about at the moment , but we as fans have always been lauded as fans who , when cornered , close in and support our side through thick and thin . I think as fans we need to remember that . We are Stoke , bollocks to everyone else . Let's get behind our lads .
Bad start , but season starts now .

Could have won both games . Barring some poor goalkeeping , woodwork , and a soft penalty. I think we have good players . They're just shot for confidence . I agree that the manager should play to the players strengths and change our formation . I'm willing to give him time to get it right . My knickers are still dry .

What makes you think he can make it work?
Bielsa joined a bang average Leeds side and within one summer got them playing decent attacking football.
Within in a year he has got them playing great. We were miles away from them today.
Hes basically signed no one and just worked with what he's got bar a couple of loans here and there.
NJ has had time and money and taken back 30 steps. He's totally clueless.

But the two previous games we created lots of chances , didn't give many away , unfortunately the few we did were converted . Look , I'm not pretending that everything is fine , it's not . We're bottom . However there's 41 more games left and I think we can start again , bring the expensive signings back into the fold , put them in the shop window , and move forward .

We were miles away from them today. Hes basically signed no one and just worked with what he's got bar a couple of loans here and there. NJ has had time and money and taken back 30 steps. He's totally clueless. Agree entirely.. I use the example of Dean Smith at Villa last season. He arrived with them as they were on their knees and about to have all their best players pinched off them on the cheap and they were going nowhere. He turned them into a promotion winning side, all within 7 months. It can be done & it has been done. If a managers good enough he can make it work. All this talk of a 3 year project isnt cutting it with me, the promises arent being kept, the signings arent fitting the systems that are clearly failing. The confidence has drained and it seems like the formation and tactics versus Leeds was someone making a final throw of the dice coz everything else he's tried has failed. We as a club and a squad on the pitch are no further forward and if anything we're worse than we were in January when Jones first took over which Is frightening. I'd love him to succeed but I really cant see how he's going to turn this all around. & this is where the problem lies, Jones is talking the talk & convincing himself he's the man to make it work & the board will be sat watching behind gritted teeth coz their big gamble last winter has clearly not paid off & I cant see them acting anytime soon because to do so would hammer yet another nail in their recruitment process & would be yet another failed appointment on their CV! So no-ones going to crack & throw the towel in & I expect the defeats to continue in the meantime. It's all such a sorry state.

We all saw how long it took the Board to react and sack Hughes and Rowett, even when it was patently obvious to the fans for weeks/months that drastic action needed to be taken. They sacked Hughes and then publicly trawled around trying to get his replacement and ended up with soddin' Lambert. Rowett went eventually and we brought in a very inexperienced guy (at this level) much more quickly and it just hasn't worked out as 3 wins in 26 will testify.
There seems to be no cohesive plan, and I'm wondering (and very concerned) whether the Coates's are even discussing the possibility of sacking Jones at the moment and lining up a suitable, experienced replacement.
I think he's very much on borrowed time and will probably be gone after the Brum game which would give 2 weeks for a new manager to be appointed. He needs to be replaced before we're firmly rooted at the bottom of the league needing two or three wins just to try to get out of the relegation places. We see it season after season and clubs in those positions rarely if ever manage to escape.
Enough is enough - he needs to go this week.

Have we still got a rotten core ? Where actually does the problem start ? When Pulis was here it all seemed to go tits up after Cartwright started well a few months later. I know he’s off but what changed back then ?

The corresponding fixture last season engendered a lot of hope,NJ got a lot right and tactically outmanoeuvred Biesla. Since then we appear to be going backwards almost exponentially, while Leeds have improved massively. One of the hopes I have is that either through niggling injuries or suspensions NJ is compelled to juggle things and lands on a formation/personnel that really clicks. On the strength of yesterday, whilst he doesn't appear afraid to make tough calls, little seems to be coming to fruition by design.

People said he was experimenting etc. And he was but to what end? There was no logic about it. We learned very little and what we did we largely ignored. What did we learn? The best football he played was with Charlie Adam in the side. As much as I don’t like him, it was. We got no one in who can do what he does with the ball from deep. Bojan made us better. We swapped him for a crock and a grandad. Verlinden is actually very good on the wing. Shat his pants because why would he want a winger? Collins is class. He’s slowly getting there. We needed a left back and DM so badly it hurt - nothing. It was 4/5 months totally wasted which is completely unacceptable.

Agreed,I think the 3-5-2 we adopted very briefly really suited us, we had the personnel to make it viable and give it some longevity, but it got binned off relatively quickly (granted NJ was denied Adam's services for a while,) if memory serves?

More like a trench in the sand.
Jones has made himself to look a complete and utter fool from the start from going to “not my players” to somehow managing to put together a worse squad takes some doing at any level.
Yes he’s massively out of his depth and if we’re pissing ourselves at his diamond salvation just think what professional footballers think when he’s trying to install it into them knowing full well it won’t work.
I said prior to the QPR game opponents would target this system and the likes of JM and that’s exactly what’s happening.
Still of the opinion that these are not all Jones signings and he’s being steered towards localism.

We are bloody bottom of the league with 1 point, and had a full pre season to whip us in to even a decent bit of shape. We should have been prepared from the off. A pasting against Birmingham surely sees him gone (or maybe even one against Leeds, I worry about playing them on their turf)
