Apparently that goal was not given, but Ajax have scored again. The transfer of Haller from West Ham to Ajax had completely passed me by. £65M he's gone for in his past two moves They paid an Dutch Ere Division record of €22 million for him When he was at Utrecht he was proper poor and his attitude stunk -think of another Berahino...... god knows what Ajax see him I think he’s a VERY overaten striker

The guy comparing him to Beagrie on the radio...utter nonsense No doubt 10 pages when he scores Found his level The only times I've noticed him in this game is when he was lying on the ground or complaining about something.

Good performance from Cox - should we need a fullback some time.

Not much of a debut - but as I was saying - you can't judge anyone on 10 mins. Especially if he doesn't actually touch the ball...

I think on reflection on yesterday's Dutch game FS gave a good account of themselves. It's difficult to say much about the current setup after one game, but they kind of resembled us, when we play a much better team, we rise to the occasion. The real test is when you play teams around or below your level. We tend to bomb quite often.
They're definitely not a third rate team, as someone said above. Not even second rate. On the other hand they have some good players, but not a particular good team. Again that's similar to us, They do have far better players on the ball, good technique, and a definite strategy that players adhere to. But a little thin in places, such as creative midfield.
Historically they're one up on us. They've played in two cup finals. Their results are exactly the same as ours. (I'm not counting the then league cup, as Holland didn't have an equivalent competition),
Verlinden came on to his customary ten minutes and was barely there. I noticed just one situation where the ball broke loose after a corner, and he tried to control the ball, but before he could do anything he had been run over by a Dutch steam train. He saw little of the ball, because in the last segment Ajaz made many substitutions and with fresh legs were able to put heavy pressure on FS's tired legs, and that killed any forward ambitions FS might have had.
Very effective. MON should try that sometime, when we're leading by a solitary goal, instead of inviting teams to come at us.

"We" didn't have a say in the matter. MON wanted to see both his heels and this board would never question the manager's actions, so it is what it is. We'll have to reserve judgment on whether a loan would have been better for Thibo. He's good but there is a question mark against him. He needs to prove himself first at FS. It could go either way.

“At the end of 2020 there were many games with Stoke and although I was always part of the squad, my playing time was limited to a handful of minutes.
Just getting the last five minutes doesn't feel like a full-blown opportunity. Stoke then indicated that it would actually prefer to sell me permanently and so I decided to leave England behind. ”
“There was interest from other clubs in the Championship and also from Belgium. Club Brugge? I am not aware of that myself, but Fortuna was the most concrete. They really wanted me to be there and the conversation with the trainer played an important role in my choice. He pointed out to me that I can also learn a lot on a tactical level and I followed that reasoning. At Stoke, the training sessions were often so focused on the result of the next match that I didn't feel like I was really learning. ”
“Entering the Eredivisie was also a determining factor. It is an attractive competition at European level and young footballers get their chance. Then this is the best possible choice in my career at the moment. It's time to prove myself. ”
“And finally, the family also played a role. I am looking for a house in Limburg, but that is still closer to home in Koksijde than I was in recent years. I am looking forward to spending more time with my family. I didn't see much of my grandparents in recent years. The circumstances may be difficult at the moment, but I will be able to see them anyway. ”
"That was immediately gasping for breath”, the winger laughs. “Just before I came in, we were reduced to ten and once on the field I was immediately after Tagliafico! Quite tough, but of course I came here for such competitions. The Championship is always about waging war, while football is thought about here. Ajax, that's Champions League level! ”
“But Feyenoord and PSV also achieve a high level and it is only nice that we can measure ourselves with it. Unfortunately we did not achieve a stunt, but in the coming weeks it will mainly be a question of grabbing points against the teams that are ranked below us"
“A starting place? I'm not going to claim that right away ”, Verlinden adds. “I've played little in recent months and everyone at the club is aware of that situation. We don't want to skip steps. I'm just going to give everything in training and every time I get on the pitch ”

So, he didn’t like the training and didn’t feel personally suited to the fast pace of the Championship then. Or too put it politely he wasn’t good enough ? To be fair to him even MON has said that games are coming so quickly at the moment(and since the restart last year) that training is pretty light. Probably a head count of who's fit and available for the next game.

Somewhere in there is a perfectly valid point. Something I often worry about is that player development, skills and technique are often casualties of the English game for young players. We bemoan the lack of this development at club and national level, but our system isn't really set up to do this. It's compounded by lack of game time and certain managerial philosophy regarding drills and shape. This isn't meant to be a Verlinden only post, I'm just not convinced that we do this in the UK. Technique is not something most managers and coaches can afford to coach in the burly burly of our game.

So, he didn’t like the training and didn’t feel personally suited to the fast pace of the Championship then. Or too put it politely he wasn’t good enough ? Seems like a perfectly valid point to me. It must be fairly disheartening participating in training which focuses solely on the next game, knowing full well you wont be involved in that game, despite results being rancid and watching some utter shit operate in your area of the pitch with no apparent sanction on their performance.
