Choose the 11 tallest players we have, put them on the goal line. And ask them to jump up and down for 90 minutes.

Well, if the diamond isn't working, what about trying a triangle? Davies Batth CCV Lindsay Edwards Woods Clucas Ince Gregory Hogan McClean ...or possibly a square. Davies Edwards CCV Lindsay Clucas Allen Etebo Ince McClean Hogan Gregory Possibly a Bermuda triangle as half the team go missing at some point!!. I'll get me coat.

I think we could do worse than field the team which played at Wigan, yes they were weak opposition but at least we will have worked on that formation with those personnel and they can't be worse than that shambles from last night..

It's hugely understandable that people are queueing up to drop Butland, Batth, and Allen for the next game, yet I would hazard a guess that those three, along with McClean, are the first four names on the team sheet vs Leeds. Because in a time of trouble you need experience and leadership, and even if they all failed vs Preston, and they did, the thinking will be that with their experience they cannot possibly play as badly two games in a row.
Of course they can, but a manager cannot allow himself to think they will.
As for skipping the diamond entirely, he's not going to do that, or he'd essentially be saying after four games, that the pre season preparations was a waste of time, and the 10 players he bought in the summer can leave now.
He's not going to do that because it would be virtually a letter of resignation.
But he's going to tweak it for his plan B, which is to have 3 CDs, two of which are comfortable enough on the ball to break up play and build up our own switching further upfield (one at a time), 2 WBs, 3 MFs possibly in a revolving triangle, which sort of resembles his diamond but without the anchoring DM, which he seems to have dispensed with entirely after 1 game, vainly thinking we were so good we didn't need defensive protection so he played the far more attackminded but not defensively strong Woods instead, 1 DLF/CAM, 1 CF.
It might work out as Butland Collins Batth Vickers Edwards McClean Etebo Allen Badou Powell Hogan
On paper that might look like 3-6-1/3-5-1-1, but knowing our lads they will probably interpret it as 5-4-1, with the ball played backwards the whole time.
Despite keeping the nucleus of the team which failed so badly it does include four newcomers who can each bring something to the team that we don't have now, confidence, ability, power, daring to do something different.

I feel like anyone thinking it can’t be worse than last best prepare themselves for Sat. This is start of the season Leeds like last year start of the season Leeds not January mid injury crisis and bad run of form Leeds. Even if NJ switches things up he hasn’t really got any time to work on it other than today and tomorrow. I highly doubt he’s been working on any other formation - he said as much preseason and still claimed Wigan was “diamond” just with 3 at the back. I’d prepare for the worst if I was you.

Why do keep putting Badou in the teams, he clearly isn't around the club, training or otherwise.. He will and never was going to play for our club again from a long time ago..

How many threads are whinging about our players not wanting to play for us then week after week people put the guy in who has repeatedly and explicitly announced that he doesn’t want to be here? Mental.

Can’t help but feel that he’s going to eventually stumble upon a winning formula rather than choosing one. At least that’s what I’m hoping..

Brilliant. He hasn't been here a year and already he's turning into Vinegar Tits.
There's something in the water here I'm convinced.

As the Wigan game was the only one we have won and also kept an otherwise elusive clean sheet, it seems sensible to set up in that system with a few more of the regulars to bolster the team:
Federici
Collins Carter Vickers Lindsay
Edwards Woods Cousins (I'd love to play Badou, but who knows where his head's at?!?!?) Etebo McClean
Duffy
Gregory

Agreed, no huge egos, no fancy dans who think they are better than they are, and more than enough of them who have done a decent job in this league before now and can do so again. Stick with it in the league for a run of games (maybe Powell to job share with Duffy when fully fit?) and see where it takes us.

Id be tempted to go 4231 for this game. Only chance I think we have is to change it around. Bielsa will have the weaknesses in this diamond sussed and they will execute it at any opportunity. Only chance I give us of winning is by changing the formation. No mclean but ward & smith for experience in a more conservative back 4.
Davies
Smith Batth Lindsay Ward
Etebo Clucas
Verlinden Ince Duffy
Gregory

I doubt he'll ditch the diamond completely. But wouldn't be surprised if he went to the 3-at-the-back variant - and dropped a few sacred cows.

Has to be 4-2-3,1

If we are giving Jones all the time in the world for 3 wins in 30 then why should we drop Butland for maybe 3 bad performances in 30
Butland
Smith Baath Lindsey (Clucas no one else)
Allen Etobe Powell McClean
Hogan Gregory
4-4-2 in your face high pace football
