If he plays the diamond , Woods cannot play at the base, he can't defend. We have to either get Badou to play or give Sorensen the chance.

Wow ... what was the formation? Robertson on the right wing, Huddy and John in the middle, who played on the left wing? I suppose Greenhoff veered left. Not as a traditional winger though. ALSO Pejic could cover a lot of ground. Ohh Waddo getting all 21st century ... !

Its just a bit of a balance really, we've been creating chances and we don't want to lose that but clearly we need to be doing better at the back, this could be the best of both worlds. I have always liked it. I might have even mentioned it a couple of times? 😜 I think it suits our players better, but as others have said, you can't legislate for calamities like tonight. I'd never noticed mate. Regardless of formation, I'm just wondering what Collins, Etebo, Duffy, CCV and Verlinden have got to do to get a start.

This should have been sorted pre season. The fact Jones (or indeed any of us ) hasn’t a clue what the best side is speaks volumes.

To be fair, there's been three past manager's in our very recent history, who were all being paid that sort of figure and who all really didn't know what our best team was either ...

Whatever the team is, I hope he finds room for Duffy. The defence is a joke, but we are desperate for a bit of craft moving forward and I get the feeling he could link up nicely with Powell.

I'm lost with all these diamond /non-diamond/kind-of diamond formations. Especially when Joe Allen is doing his headless chicken routine in the middle of it all. Jack (for as great as he's been for us) obviously needs a break. For me NJ should start with Davies, Collins and Etebo. Ryan Woods deserves to play as does James McClean at left back, Hogan and Gregory were impressive vs. Derby but give Campbell more than just a late subs appearance, play him from the start or bring him on at half time if we're not looking dangerous enough. Anyway, that's my opinion. I was really looking forward to a win tonight, thoroughly pissed off. This post was bought to you by Gordons Gin and Schweppes tonic. Good night.

I am lost. The diamond is obviously not working. We could try 532 or 4231, but these players, many of whom have been, and even are still, good, seem as confused as hell and unsure what to do.
On that basis, let's just set up in a solid 442 and play simple football with players in their natural positions.
Keeper (not Butland)
Smith Collins Lindsay Ward
Ince Woods Etebo McClean
Hogan Gregory

The only way we can play with a back 4 is if Ward starts, otherwise it has to be a 3 with wingbacks.

Shake it up a bit The fact you'd choose Smith over Edwards discredits your entire selection

We need to fix the hole in the middle and protect the defence and that means two in central midfield. As Woods can’t defend, it has to be Cousins and Etebo. Batth is a liability and has to go and Ward should come in as our only specialist left back, Clucas is not great there. Then we need width which means Verlinden and Ince or Verlinden and McClean if we want to play people on their right sides. Choice then is Powell and Gregory or Hogan and Gregory. For Leeds, I would go Powell as a more defensive shape
Federici Smith Collins CCV Ward Etebo Cousins Verlinden Powell McClean Gregory

Davies Collins (c) Carter-Vickers Lindsay Woods Edwards Etebo Clucas McClean Duffy Hogan Subs: Federici, Smith, Cousins, Powell, Campbell, Gregory, Ince. I could get right behind that, feel as though its a little harsh on Greggers, Im right behind sending Allen to Mowcop and not in the squad also

I think the bigger question is - does he stick with the diamond?! We may not have worked on it but just go 442 or 4231. We have ‘worked’ on the diamond but that’s getting us nowhere

Wigan formation, Wigan team.
He should at least attempt to go back to something that has worked recently for him, rather than some left-field selection, at least it would allow us to see his thought process a bit clearer.

I honestly have no idea what 11 should start v Leeds,I do know, Allen shouldn't even be on the bench, never mind the starting 11.
Butland needs dropping, but are our other keepers good enough?
McClean should be nowhere near the L/B spot.
Baath needs replacing with Collins(capt).
Etebo and Campbell need to start.
Verlindin should be on the bench,or even start.
So around 6/7 changes from that debacle last night.
