Having spent the Christmas period laid up with a dose of mild flu thankfully I had the vacation and missing the three defeats to Tilbury Soham and great Wakering
I restart my season with a Tuesday night away trip to Basildon After a lengthy mini bus trip due to several tail backs we arrive to a ground that can best be discribed as basic We have a quick pint and go through the turnstile to be met by a pitch with more sand than Southend beach
We hear later the ref was going to postpone the game till he heard how far we had traveled
KO Well there's not a lot to say really other than both sets of players struggled to cope with a pitch with a variable bounce worse than a fifth day test wicket
HT 0-0
Food made the mistake of purchasing some wouldn't of fed it to a dog I disliked
Bovril was very good though
KO Dereham start the half with much more determination and soon carve out several chances that go begging and then just as we think this has nil nil written all over it A clever through ball sends the Dereham winger through on goal and he cooly places the ball past the keeper 0-1
With Dereham now firmly in the ascendancy Basildon are reduced to ten men following a clumsy challenge Dereham quickly take, advantage and a ball pulled back is stroked home by the Dereham striker 0-2
With the game coming to a close the substitute striker with a good solo effort scores Dereham's thrid 0-3
FT 0-3
Attd 68
Nice to see Dereham getting back to winning ways against what was a limited Basildon side
Onwards to Saturday which will see us make our longest trip of the season to Canvey Island

A long but smooth journey sees us arrive at the ground of Canvey Island as we step off the bus we are hit by a very brisk wind So much for the prospect of a entertaining game
KO With Dereham playing into the wind it was always going to be struggle but the make shift defence managed to cope with a early onslaught
The early Dereham break aways foundered on a pair of center halves who could best be discribed as the love children of vokes and parkin
The half draws to a close and much to are surprise Dereham are level
HT 0-0
No bloody bovril
KO
Dereham playing with a wind straight off the Thames estuary carve out a couple of early chances The ball is then lost in midfield and from the forthcoming corner Canvey force the ball home 1-0
Dereham continue to press and after a corner and several blocked shots the ball arrives at the feet of the Dereham midfielder who calmly slots home
With the game coming to a close and a much deserved point to a side higher in the league the referee gives four minutes of injury time In the last minute Dereham are awarded a free kick and the ball is swung in to the far post the Dereham striker rises above the defenders and nods home
Yessssss take that you pie munching twats Dereham score there first last minute winner since moses parted the red Sea
FT 1-2
Attd 168
Well I didn't see that happening two trips to deepest Essex in four days and two wins upto eighth
Onto Saturday and another difficult trip to Essex to face Hullbridge

After a free weekend due to the hullbridge pitch being waterlogged
Dereham find themselves at home to Coggeshall on Saturday
KO
Coggeshall start the game the brighter and in the forth minute a coming together in the box results in Coggeshall being awarded a penalty The Dereham keeper dives to his left and pushes the ball around the post
From the resulting corner the Dereham keeper catches and quickly releases the ball And Coggeshall concede a corner the ball is partially cleared and the Dereham midfielder on the edge of the box fires home 1-0 Within a couple of minutes Dereham break away and double there lead with the striker tapping home from close rangec 2-0
Twelve minutes in Coggeshall move forward with purpose And a smart move is finished by the striker 2-1
Quite a opening fifteen
Thee game progresses with Derham carving the better chances and with ten minutes of the half left Dereham score a third
HT 3-1
KO
Coggeshall start the second half the brighter and the Dereham keeper is forced to pull off a series of good saves to keep Dereham two goals clear
With a rare meaningful venture into the opposition half Dereham win a corner which after a bit of a scramble the Dereham midfielder heads home from close range 4-1 The fourth goal knocks the stuffing out of Coggeshall and Dereham see out the remaining minutes quite comfortably
Ft 4-1
Attd 301
Man of the match Dereham keeper
Dereham now move into seventh above Coggeshall A very entertaining game in front of a bumper crowd
A special mention to olly murs who spent time having his photo took with fans and signing autographs came across as a nice guy

Last Saturday saw myself and number 2 son and daughter in law make the shortish trip to Bury St Edmunds for the isthmian league North clash
KO
The game kicks off with both teams trying to play football in challenging conditions
Midway through the half the Dereham striker goes one on one with the keeper and the Bury keeper unfortunately picks up a injury which results in him having to be substituted
During the ten minutes of first half injury time the Dereham winger has a shot blocked but hits the rebound into the bottom corner 0-1
HT 0-1
I can fully recomend the burgers there from a local butchers and the bovril was excellent also
KO
Bury start the half the stronger pressing for the equaliser The Dereham keeper making a couple of good saves Dereham then create a few chances but are unable to force the temp keeper to have to make a save
In the seventy fifth minute Bury level the score with a unmarked player from a corner 1-1 With Dereham having seemed to have survived the late Bury onslaught the game enters injury time
The referee than mysteriously awards Bury a penalty Which is a shock to the away support as the Dereham players are still wearing the Bury defenders fingerprints all over there backs
The Bury substitute cooly slots home for a 2-1 Bury victory
FT 2-1
Attd 322
A disappointing defeat but probably deserved with Dereham putting in a lacklustre performance

Tuesday night sees me arrive at aldiss Park for the home game against Histon at half time due to my pigeon club agm
I meet up with my eldest son and he tells me Histon are reduced to ten men due to what can only be described as a ausault on the Dereham striker
KO
With Histon down to ten men they then spend the half encamped on there own 18 yard line inviting Dereham to break them down Which unfortunately thanks to hitting the bar and post and several good saves they were unable to do
I don't think I've ever seen a more cynical side as Histon and if I had to watch that week in week out I'd take to inserting pins in my eyes for amusement
FT 0-0
Attd 148
A special mention for the Dereham keeper who bravely fought off frostbite during the second half with piss all to do

Well here we go 22/23 ::
Certainly going to be a strange season Dereham town find ourselves fucked over by the fa
Four years without a team within a hours traveling away two get promoted and one relegated local derbies 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 No the fa in there obvious wisdom decide they’ll move us from the isthmian north after ten years and place us in the northern premier midlands division Now nothing within a hour and a half
Having reluctantly accepted our fate a player exodus ensues leaving us with just two of last years players The manger departs a fortnight ago Leaving his replacement a very short time to find a team to start the season
This coming Friday we’re away ironically to one of the newly promoted teams to our old league in the fa cup extra preliminary round Wroxham twenty miles away So at least one local derby against the web fingered freaks With no recognised current squad interesting times indeed

Unfortunately it’s ultimately the fa’s decision which league a team plays in when there’s a discrepancy in league numbers The three teams relegated out of the northern premier midland division were histon Wisbech and soham all in theory slightly south of Dereham if one of them had survived Dereham would of stopped in the isthmian north for a eleventh successive season

That said, Dereham is only just outside Norwich, so it's a bit of a tough one! Enjoy your season, waga. Get promoted and you could be playing the mighty Stafford Rangers!

Have often thought of packing in watching Stoke and go support a local non league side. But then I weigh up the pros and cons of it all and realise i would miss a lot of things about not going to Stoke so it stops me from absconding. As i get older i will no doubt reevaluate those thoughts and get up the street to watch Foley Meir FC
