Fuckin hell imagine following a team where it would be something of a giant-killing to overcome a team called Needham Market. Don't get me wrong by the way I love this thread. I salute you wag. It has its ups and downs But most of all it’s live football it’s that couple of hours where myself and my sons and now The eldest grandson have that common interest

We arrive at Aldiss Park the home of the mighty Dereham town in plenty of time basking in the autumn sunshine for the game against heybridge swifts
Ko Dereham have a couple of players back after missing the narrow defeat in the cup replay on Tuesday and soon settle in to the game creating chances but rely on there keeper to smother the odd heybridge break away attempts Towards the end of the half the game becomes more end to end
Very entertaining nil nil to be honest
Ht 0-0
Second half starts like the first with Dereham creating the better chances without actually putting the ball in the net Though heybridge look dangerous on the break
Around Twenty minutes into the half the Dereham winger collects the ball turns his defender cuts inside and hits a screamer into the top corner 1-0 Dereham The Dereham keeper pulls of two outstanding saves to keep the lead
Having missed several more chances the Dereham keeper is finally beaten by a carbon copy of the Dereham goal 1-1 The game finishes with both teams pressing for a winner to no avail
FT 1-1
Overall a well deserved point against a side that will be there about If only dereham could convert the chances created
Onwards and upwards Next game Histon away Tuesday night

Well a touch late but I’ve had a touch of calming down to do
Tues night away to Histon
The night started with a trip through the Cambridgeshire fens to the edge of Cambridge to the glass world stadium home of Histon a club bouncing back towards there conference days
The ground a very neat stadium showing the higher level they used to witness had a good bar severing a decent pint and the food probably the BEST I’ve ever eaten at a football ground The evening then sadly went downwards
KO Dereham dominated the opening ten minutes until showing a uncharacteristic desire to resemble the defensive capabilities of the maginot line Concede a simple goal 1-0 Histon
Ten minutes later the Dereham defence showing a even greater level of chaotic ineptitude allow across the six yard box to reach the far post where the Dereham centre half clumsily bundles over the striker penalty and a red card 2-0 Histon
Dereham rearrange and hold out until half time with the referee making a number of bizarre decisions
HT 2-0
Early into the second half normal service is resumed in the Dereham defence and Histon carve through and score again 3-0 Histon Five minutes later Dereham show the best move of the game and a cross from the right is headed into the net 3-1 The comeback is on ? The next move forward the ball is passed into the Histon area the Dereham forward is bundled over penalty red card ? Not even a yellow inconsistency in the extreme Dereham miss the penalty
Dereham continue to press and have the winger up ended by the full back already on a yellow second yellow not a chance a bookable challenge let go by the alleged official
A long through ball by the Histon midfield expose the Dereham defence as the keeper rushes to the edge of his area to cover the missing fullback is neatly lobbed by the Histon striker 4-1
Dereham continue to press picking up several more bookings in the process but to no avail
FT 4-1 Histon
Oh for a missed penalty could been 3-2 down from 3-0 with twenty five to play
Man of the match the referee a look at me look at me performance You don’t pay good money to see that

A sunny September afternoon me and number two son decide to spend are usual Saturday watching Dereham town We proceed to Aldiss Park with high hopes of a local derby win against bury town
Ko : Dereham playing in to a slight back wind start to dominate play and earn a justified penalty which unlike Tuesday night is stroked into the net 1-0 Dereham Midway into the half the Dereham winger plays a smart one two and slots the ball home 2-0 Dereham with 2 minutes of the half left and Dereham still pressing bury break out and have there winger brought down just outside the box Bury’s main threat somehow slots the ball into the opposite corner of the net 2-1
HT 2-1
Questions need to be asked over the lack of concentration or ability to see a half out
KO :
Within seconds Dereham yet again show a total lack of concentration and a mix up between the Dereham midfielder and fullback allow the bury striker a clean shot at goal and its 2-2
Ten minutes later a long ball leaves the other Dereham fullback isolated and the bury winger beats the onrushing Dereham goalkeeper to the ball and crosses the ball across the Dereham area it takes a wicked bounce and crosses the line 2-3 bury
Bury then in a quite professional manner see the game out
FT. 2-3
Attd 212
Another mystifying defeat as simple mistakes cost us again

Cup fever 3
Fa trophy extra prelim round
Having gone to pick my eldest grandson and his dad number three son ( normally works Saturdays) we make are way to Aldiss Park for the home game against Halesowen town
Due to a puncture on the way we get there just before kickoff no time for a bloody pint
Ko The game starts with Dereham playing against the strong wind which being a passing side suits more Around the ten minute mark the ball comes back out of Halesowen box and the Dereham midfielder rifles home 1-0 Dereham
The game settles down with the weather effectively negating any quality with five minutes to half time a speculative long ball sees the Dereham defence let the ball bounce and the striker latches on to the loose ball and slot it over the onrushing keeper 1-1
HT : 1-1 A fair reflection as we reach the club house the heavens open and a downpour the writer of book of genesis would struggle with Bovril good though
Ko The rain has almost ceased as we trudge out with visible puddles on the pitch the game meanders through the half the players coping the best they can with the conditions
As the half is coming to a conclusion we start to plan the trip to south Birmingham tues night when a cross field ball from the Halesowen midfielder finds the strike on his own in yards of space (due to are left back giving a very good impression of the invisible man ) He takes the ball forward and smartly beats the keeper 1-2 Halesowen
Ft 1-2
Attd 153 Very poor turnout weather didn’t help Norwich away should of
Overall Halesowen did enough to deserve a victory But we must stop losing from a winning position due to individual errors

A sunny afternoon in Essex
This Saturday dereham town are away to Coggeshall in the isthmian north league
As I’m on my own this week I’ve secured a seat on the team bus which has its advantages apart from having to arrive two hours before kick off
On arrival I take myself to the bar to pass the time the beer is reasonable in both quality and price The food not so
Ko :
The game is played in perfect conditions on a pitch worthy of a higher level Dereham begin to assert themselves and after twenty minutes the ball is stroked home by the Dereham striker 0-1 Coggeshall seem to wake up and the Dereham keeper is forced into a couple of smart saves and the half comes to a close
Ht 0-1 Dereham Dereham overall deserving thee slender lead
Ko The game continues to be a close affair with the Dereham defence comfortably dealing with the Coggeshall long ball Midway through the half Dereham produce the move of the game which results in the ball reaching the Dereham winger who cuts in and slots the ball home 0-2 Dereham
Dereham comfortably withhold a late increasingly frustrated Coggeshall fight back
Ft 0-2 Dereham
Attd 112
A throughly well deserved away victory against a side sitting fourth in the league A special mention to the Dereham striker who had a excellent game
And a very pleasant journey home was had by all
Onwards and upwards

The weather dry for the first time in a week myself and my eldest grandson make our ritual trip to Aldiss Park to see the mighty Dereham town for the home game against hulbridge sports
Ko The game starts with both sides carving out openings with hulbridge striking the woodwork The game then settles down with Dereham having more possession without carving out a decent chance the hulbridge team in frustration start to commit niggley fouls And the half closes with very little entertainment on show
Ht 0-0
Time for bovril and cheesy chips for the lad
Ko
Well what a shock Dereham switch off at the start of the half and the hulbridge striker is given a free header 0-1 Dereham start to press for the equaliser and with a scrambled penalty area where players are lying on the ground the ball breaks lose and the Dereham midfielder strikes the ball into the bottom corner
The melee after the goal does no one credit Certainly not the ref who loses control and not for the first time a booking for both sides once order is restored
1-1
Dereham continue to press for a winner but to no avail the game finishes in a scrappy 1-1 Hulbridge still remain unbeaten away and sadly Dereham still haven’t won at home
FT 1-1
ATTD 187
Hulbridge set out not to lose and we’re pretty poor footballers who were not adverse to using dark arts to achieve there goal
My seven year old grandson turned to me despondently saying do Dereham ever win grumpy ( not the most cheerful of souls me ) Time for medicine I reckon detour home to my local Portuguese bar chocolate milkshake and custard tart soon restores his faith in live Saturday football

Well a Sunday trip to aveley to watch Dereham town away to grays athletic The game being rearranged from the day before due to aveley who’s ground grays share having a home cup tie
Myself and two eldest sons get on one of the clubs minibuses with a touch of trepidation due to the game being played on a artificial surface considering we played last season four matches and lost the lot with a minus 21 gd
We arrive to the ground in plenty of time and proceed to the bar area the beer being reasonable in quality if not price The food disgusting
Ko
The game quickly settles into a pattern of Dereham closing the grays players down quickly and playing the better football Grays reliant on the long ball over the top Halfway through the half a quick one two the Dereham winger cuts in and forces a good save the ball comes back out and he smashes the ball home 0-1 Dereham
Just as we think we will go in wining the Dereham fullback decides to do a Jenny agutter impression going walk about leaving a space grays exploit and score a undeserving equaliser
Ht 1-1
Ko The game continues in the same fashion with Dereham having the most play and carving out chance after chance to no avail Finally the opposite Dereham winger takes the opportunity to cut in and slots home 1-2 Dereham the Dereham striker is yet again mm away from yet another cross fired across the box
With five minutes left grays yet again find space out on the left and score a undeserved equaliser
Ft 2-2
Attd 201
All told a good point away to a side in the top three even if it feels a touch of a disappointment
As one of my sons aptly put The Dereham striker having one of those days where even if he fell into a bin full of tits he’d come out sucking his thumb

An unusual Thursday trip to Aldiss Park
Dereham town under 18s versus Peterborough Utd under 18s in the fa Youth Cup first round proper
The first half saw good football played by both teams with the posh goalkeeper denying Dereham a first half lead with a good penalty save
The second half saw some good football on offer with the posh keeper yet again keeping his side in the game with some good saves
Extra time with the better fitness of the Peterborough players beginning to show Peterborough start to dominate and a last minute scramble the ball is prodded him 1-0 Peterborough Start of the second half of extra time Peterborough are awarded a penalty which the Dereham keeper saves brilliantly The game finishes 0-1 Peterborough
The Dereham lads can hold there heads high for matching the far more illustrious opponents and in much of the game being the better team
Attd a very impressive 297
£2 well spent with a quick conversation with Barry fry thrown in as well

A blustery day down at Aldiss Park having picked my eldest grandson up me and his uncle take him to watch Dereham town
The game kicks off with witham town choosing to take the advantage of the wind Ten minutes into the game the witham striker latches on to a through ball and has a clear run at goal the young Dereham leftback running back clips his heal just outside the box RED CARD Dereham down to ten men this is going to be a long afternoon Dereham then promptly take off the unlucky striker to bring on a defender
Around ten minutes later witham win a corner the ball is crossed into the box a witham player in acres of space heads the ball in unchallenged 0-1
With the half progressing Dereham start a smart move down the left And the Dereham winger fires a unstoppable shot past the witham keeper 1-1
Ht 1-1
Overall we trudge to the bar in reasonable spirits having with ten men come back to be level
Cup of restorative bovril for me and Cheesy chips for the lad
Ko Dereham start the half strongly and win a free kick on the edge of the box and the right winger strikes the ball into the top corner With the witham keeper standing looking as amazed as us 2-1 Dereham
We then await for the inevitable onslaught that for some reason fails to materialise The Dereham right winger collects the ball and juggles the ball past two defenders and hits the ball home 3-1 Dereham Half way through the half the right winger runs on to a through ball and slots the ball home off the inside of the far post his hat trick Dereham's fourth
With witham now in total disarray Dereham win the ball in midfield and the Dereham midfielder goes on a mazy run beating four witham players before slotting home 5-1 Dereham
FT Dereham town 5 witham town 1
ATTD 137
All the emotions of football in one match with ten men Dereham not only coming back but going on to dominate witham
Not bad for are first home win of the season
Onwards and upwards

After a free week due to our opponents still being in the fa trophy Dereham have a home game against Brentwood
A quick half in my local before the game they have Timothy Taylor landlord on at the moment see’s me and my eldest grandson meeting up with number two son and traveling to Aldiss Park
Ko the game starts with Dereham dominating the first few minutes Only for Brentwood to play a long ball which the striker slots past an onrushing Dereham goalkeeper 0-1 typical Dereham
Ten minutes later Dereham are awarded a free kick just outside the box up steps the Dereham winger who curls the ball over the wall into the top corner For his fifth goal in three games 1-1
Dereham continue to press forward and one of the Dereham strikers receives the ball with his back to goal turns his man smartly and puts the ball into the bottom corner 2-1 Dereham
With the half coming to a close the move of the game see’s the Dereham right back playing a first time pass on the half way line to release the right winger who runs down the wing puts a cross into the path of the striker who hits a first time shot into the top corner 3-1
HT. 3-1
A good half after a bad start Bovril good but made the mistake of ordering food which I wouldn’t of fed to a dog I disliked
KO
Dereham start the second half at a fast pace with the Dereham striker receiving the ball in the box and running almost to the byline before slotting the ball home from what appeared to be an impossible angle 4-1
With Dereham continuing to press the Dereham left winger receives the ball cuts in and hammers the ball pst the frustrated Brentwood keeper 5-1
With Dereham now slacking off a touch the Dereham keeper pulls off a brilliant save only for the ball to rebound off the crossbar and falling to a Brentwood player who scrambled the ball home for a consolation goal 5-2
FT 5-2
ATTD. 206
You wait for a home win all season and two arrive on the Bounce A excellent performance against a dogged Brentwood team With the Brentwood keeper being man of the match probably stopping Dereham hitting double figures
Onwards and thankfully upwards to next weeks home game against Romford and there new spiv owner

On a crisp Norfolk morning me and number 2 son prepare to board the club mini bus for the alleged local Derby against lowestoft and Walton utd
We arrive around a hour and a half before ko as we are carrying the kit balls ect To find a nice compact ground and a neat bar serving a decent pint at a reasonable price so far so good
Ko the game starts with a biting wind coming straight off the North Sea and a early booking for the Dereham winger The ref dug his hole early A scrappy half indespersed with baffling bookings for both sides With the only thing worth mentioning a felixstowe opener a corner which is headed home at the far post by a player totally unmarked Bloody awful defending
HT 1-0
Ko
The game restarts with Dereham pressing for a equaliser when a fifty fifty ball results in the Dereham captain receiving a second yellow and Dereham having to play most of the half with ten men
Five minutes latter felixstowe play a quick passing manoeuvre and release the striker who calmly slots home 2-0
With the Dereham players feeling agrived to be down to ten men the comeback begins with a smart move being finished by the Dereham right winger with a crisp shot 2-1
Dereham continue to press and the Dereham striker receives the ball on the penalty spot turns under pressure to fire in against the near post 2-2 the comeback is complete
With five minutes to go there develops a scramble in the felixstowe box and the ball is passed back to the edge of the box and the Dereham dm unleashes a unstoppable shot and unbelievably its three two to Dereham
Ft 2-3
Atdd 218
Well a unbelievable comeback from a never say die Dereham side Who for a second time this season having been reduced to ten men comeback from being down to win
Up to seventh a playoff spot beckons Next week home to Tilbury
2-1

The last game before Christmas see's Dereham at home to sudbury In the bet Victor isthmian North division
KO
Sudbury start the game the stronger with the Dereham keeper pulling off a string of excellent saves to keep Dereham on parity Slowly Dereham start to get a foothold in the game with the sudbury keeper now showing the art of keeping is not dead
One final leaping save from the Dereham keeper sees the deadlock matained at half time
HT 0-0
Much to the amazement of the crowd who struggle to comprehend how such a entertaining game is goalless
KO Dereham start the second half much the brighter side yet again forcing the sudbury keeper into a couple of smart saves A quick one two sees the Dereham midfielder released free on goal and he calmly slots the ball round the keeper 1-0 Dereham Asthe game progreses it looks highly likely that Dereham will hold on when a long distance shot beats the unsighted Dereham keeper 1-1
FT 1-1
ATTD 208
Overall a good point with both sides deserving something out of a very entertaining game a credit to the league
Dereham enter the Christmas season in eithth on 24 points played 17 won 6 drawn 6 and lost five
