It will never happen, Lilfraise. We're going under. First. At last in Sweden we will. Today right wing party SD, Sweden Democrats, their leader held a speech, among things said: "Greta Thunberg is just a symbol. Going on a boat trip won't change anything. Every normal person understand we can't go by boat to transport people and goods around the globe to save the earth. We can't afford that! The world economy would collapse." I have full respect for people wanting to save the world. But we can't afford that, is basically what he meant. He got a standing ovation. Best speech ever people said. SD are 3rd or 2nd largest party. We could probably still have a global transportation system for goods, and save the environment at the same time. Focus on other areas to make us all carbon neutral and it won't be too much of an issue to ship food across the world. Things such as Reusing rather than buying new Not eating animal products Planting a fuck load of trees, and stop destroying the forests Cycle/walk to work when you can Holiday in the UK, or get a train to the continent I'll say it again because it's one of the best things an individual can do. Stop eating meat. We do all that, we can probably all have a good quality of life still. However the Amazon is burning and people are standing around aghast, but reluctant to take any action that may be an inconvenience for them selves, their families, or their taste buds.

What’s the issue with eating meat as opposed to veg & in the grand scheme of things, how is it worse than carbon fuel, when you consider that China & India are massive veg eaters, but contribute hugely to coal emissions...

There are approximately 70 billion farm animals in the world raised for food. Nearly 10 times the human population. The feed required for these animals is a huge amount more than if we were to just use land to grow food for ourselves. The transport of this is one factor. Secondly the methane from cows is far more potent than carbon dioxide. Thirdly, there isn't enough land to grow feed for all of the farm animals and ourselves. This is why swathes of the Amazon is being destroyed. The destruction of the rainforests releases more carbon into the environment. Agriculture is one of the leading cause of climate change. One last point about China and India. Their diets have become a lot more westernised so they eat more meat in comparison to previous years. They also have huge emissions because they are manufacturing a huge amount of consumables for the rest of the world. It isn't as simple as comparing the UK emissions to China or India because we hardly manufacture anything. I know some won't be swayed by anything I say, but the evidence is staring us right in the face, and it's no good everyone just saying we're helpless. We might as well try.

It's ironic beyond limit.😁 Fact is, the production system must be changed, whether we like it or not. I don't like it. Of course it will change and alter the system. It has to. So on that particular topic - they're actually wrong ...

It states in that article that August has seen an upturn in the intensity of the fires. Misleading title. Dangerous as it leads to people being dismissive of the impacts.

And therefor we should not introduce some kind of central planned world wide communism as the left and many liberals seem to believe. We need free creative people, like we always did. The hysteria, now led by a mentally challenged swedish child is not just "ironic", it's insane.

The hysteria, now led by a mentally challenged swedish child is not just "ironic", it's insane. First of all, I don't find it hysterical at all, not the slightest. I don't hear the "fans" say it's hysterical either. Anyway, progress and innovation? Yes! I'm with you on that! All the way. Question is though, will it happen? It seems Greta Thunberg's opponents are the ones most against innovation ... Because you do understand, I hope, these new innovations (which I think will come, and have to come) must have less of pollution spreading. Less. A centrally planned communism? No thanks! 😐 Why would anyone even think that's anyone's goal in the horizon? When it comes to if G Thunberg is "mentally challenged" or not - I don't know, it must be a question of definition here - and I must admit I'm no expert on neuropsyciatric disturbances. A person with Asperger Syndrome is apparently though, according to studies, average intelligent or above average intelligent, so it can't mean "stupid".

Ooh la la, What? Like we don’t need a planned & war mongered world wide capitalism. Where the children are brainwashed from infancy into a fetishised view of the world. Do you know, there are people out there that have been corralled throughout their lives & have never had an original thought. So with the current trend for regression into nationalism, how will the worlds ‘creative people’ come together to solve the issue...

A young lady that is concerned about the future, and is angry at the inaction of those before her should not be ridiculed. She is not necessarily 'leading' this battle against the world powers to actually start taking action, but she has inspired many others. There is a genuine fear about our future amongst young people, and who can blame them? Yes, there may be some 'free thinkers' that can make a massive impact, what should be do short term though, and this is 100% a short term issue along with long term.

You have to worry about blokes who feel threatened by a 16 year old girl. Ironically, most of these blokes are passed it anyway. Its alright for them, they have had a good run. They're not going to be around for much longer so they are not bothered about the impacts of the mass abuse of our planet.
