Sounded very comfortable too. Excellent stuff. We battered them. One of the most one sided stoke games I’ve ever seen.

Sounded very comfortable too. Excellent stuff. We battered them. One of the most one sided stoke games I’ve ever seen. It's good to win, but we should've really done so more convincingly. Until we get a ruthless streak and figure out where the back of the net is, I'm afraid we'll just plod along. I'm watching the night's goals go in on SSN right now and players are comfortably scoring goals that our lads have so much difficultly with. Vokes, Edwards and Cousins have all missed sitters tonight. We should have come away with at least a 3-0 win.

One first half moment summed it up. Vokes was put clean through. His touch was shocking and he inexplicably failed to get a shot away. He ended up working McLean into a 1 v1 and he never looked like scoring and the keeper made an easy save.

Despite the fact that it was a cup tie, I really enjoyed that.
I cannot remember when. I last enjoyed a Stoke game, but tonight was really good.
The only negatives:
We need to finish teams off.
Vokes was very poor.
I am not sure ( and neither is he) what it is exactly that Cousins brings to the party.

Feels quite eerie.
It was a cup game with both teams making huge changes but the win was important to us.
I think most supporters except that certain decisions need to be made on certain players and this game and result as created a kind of pause while we eagerly await the right decisions to be made that will take us forward.

As pleasing as it is to win comfortably (the scoreline doesn’t suggest this) we really need to push on with this line of thinking now. It’s no use winning this one with the team we put out and completely changing it against Derby. I know Saturday won’t be unchanged but it needs to be similar to tonight.
Excellent win and performance but we need to learn from this and not just use it as a token gesture in the league cup.

and Jones made Collins captain too.....what a coward eh Bayern 😂 He should have been in the side against Charlton. Playing him in a pretty meaningless cup game isnt that big of a deal. Making him captain is what I suggested after the QPR game. So I’m glad to see he’s catching up. Now to play him and have him as captain where it matters. 👍 will be interesting to see if he plays Vs Derby and if he does who misses out. He should in my opinion with Batth missing, that said Batth has been good since joining

Guess it depends on what he goes with though. If he goes with a back 3, he has to pick Collins surely?

Wigan 0 Stoke 1. Probably the most important cup win since some 29 years ago, in 1990, when Mark Robins scored an FA Cup goal at Nottingham Forest to save Alex Ferguson's job as manager at Manchester United.

I think he'll go back to a flat back 4 and use the 3 at the back midweek. I agree with you though, I'd definitely pick Collins but I've a niggle it will be Smith, Batth, Lindsay, McClean

It's lack of confidence that's hampering them with their finishing at the moment. Because we aren't scoring many there's pressure on the chances that are being created, that's why they're being so tentative. Hopefully there'll be an upward curve and the chances will start to be taken if we string a few results together. Hope springs eternal anyway.

If Stoke can now beat someone half decent, I might even start believing we are starting to turn a long overdue corner.
