Now training with Newport County after being released by Swansea, he is only 30 and it is just 5 years since Man City paid 28 million for him!

Another red letter day for Mark and his team.
(Though on paper it should've been a good signing)

Then got bombed. When was that? He had a decent game against Swansea when he scored a couple but was absolutely terrible for the most part.

One of the 3 "B's 5 years ago wasn't he, Bony, Benteke and Berahino, we got 2 of them in the end, it hasn't come up roses for any of them really has it?

Probably like most people, i thought he was a good signing until he played. One of those players where you think we have done well to get him, then he turned out to be shit.

Another red letter day for Mark and his team. (Though on paper it should've been a good signing) It wasn’t necessarily his fault though? Not that he wasn’t part of the problem. But it was much like the diamond. There was just too many gaps. Allen would barely get within 15 yards of him. And the whole thing just wasn’t a unit.

He had all the mobility of a Vincent Pericard tribute act for the most part. He looked a shadow of the player who first signed for Swansea. The fact he was dreadful at Citeh and dreadful when he went back to Swansea suggests maybe at least a scintilla of the blame resides with him?

Just another one of those marquee signings (not) that reflects the ability of our then recruitment process.

It seems that everybody has only good things (for a Stoke supporter) to say about him, so sign him up!

One of those really weird ones that leads you to question was he actually any good or did he just have a 2-3 year purple patch? Has happened to plenty of other strikers. Once the confidence has gone, sometimes it's never comes back.

That contract he had at Man City was to 2019 so in effect his riches from it have only just finished now.
Shows the danger of dishing out these long contracts and we are certainly not the only club to have been caught out big time.

Whenever his name comes up I think he is a prime example of how a top sportsman must keep competing constantly at the top level not to lose his form, which is rarely recovered.
We have been guilty of signing too many players who were once very good but because they have not been playing competitively regularly, due to injury or sitting on the replacement bench week after week, lose their ability.
I can think also of Wimmer, Palacios, Owen, Jesse, etc.

Once the confidence has gone, sometimes it's never comes back. I always thought he was a total donkey at Swansea, but he knew where the net was. The same for Benteke when he was at Villa. He was better than Bony but he never looked that good a player, just scored goals.

Wasn't Wildried Bony in the named squad list for The Ivory Coast last time they played?
However, the squad lists where I live can be pretty outdated sometimes ...

Whenever his name comes up I think he is a prime example of how a top sportsman must keep competing constantly at the top level not to lose his form, which is rarely recovered. This is what makes Ronaldo such a machine. Rich beyond anyone's wildest dreams, yet still his ego, drive and unstoppable hunger to win and stay at the top of his game has never waned. He's an example that every player should follow... sexual assault excepted.
